The main issue with Trump is that he is convinced he understands politics and now stupid people think that they understand politics, too. He doesn’t and they don’t. They just think they do. So out of that general wrong assumption many bad things flow.

There Trump goes blathering on and nobody is even sure what he’s talking about. He doesn’t even know what his point is. His general theme is that America is being mistreated and abused but he, and he alone, can set things right. It’s sheer fantasy. But evidently enough people bought into it, because here we are. Again. Only worse.

Trump doesn’t know how NATO works. He never has. He doesn’t seem to get that different countries pay different amounts because their GDPs vary. NATO member countries pay 2% of their GDPs on defense. Trump can’t comprehend anything as subtle as a percentage so he just made up this conspiracy theory during his first term that NATO countries “weren’t paying their bills.”
Again, and always, I don’t marvel that Trump continues to lie. That’s who he is. What I marvel at is that people continue to believe him.
I guess America needed a really hard lesson to learn who Trump is and what he’s all about. And Trump will give it to us. We are seeing the truth of that already.
