Trump is out to destroy anyone who has caused him trouble. People, agencies… whatever. He wants people to pay and bigly starting with their jobs. Of course we know countless people, civil servants who just did their assigned jobs will find themselves facing criminal charges from Trump’s DOJ. For simply doing their jobs! It doesn’t matter to Trump and his goons that laws won’t have been broken, just ruining people financially via legal expenses they’ll have to pay on bogus criminal charges will do. And since it will all be public record “lone wolf” MAGAs can do the rest.
The strongest, simplest and easiest case against Trump was the one Judge LOOSE Cannon tossed out in Florida. Trump STOLE a ton (probably literally, at fifty pounds or so a box there were an awful lot of boxes that should have gone to the National Archives) of documents including as we know highly classified ones. With any other judge Trump would have faced trial by December 2023 or January 2024 and Jack Smith’s team had him and his co-defendants dead to rights. Even with Cannon acting as an ersatz defense lawyer Trump would have been convicted and that would have been that. I suspect Trump’s blood runs cold whenever he thinks about how lucky he was that Cannon caught the case instead of any other federal judge down there.
So his fear which still resides in him, or the memories of it he can’t shake have him being the person he’s always been. Someone who will lash out in retribution and as this article from Raw Story tells us the National Archives and a bunch of its employees have moved way up the target list. Trump deserves every bit of the mental anguish and fear he experienced when he knew that even with a lapdog judge he’d be unlikely to avoid conviction on some awfully serious CRIMES. National Security CRIMES. And as I said just memories of it piss him off to no end so in his mind it’s payback time. It was entirely predictable this was coming and now the only question is whether he’ll try to abolish the National Archives entirely or just target a bunch of its employees. But the effort to punish those who “dared” to stand up to him by simply doing their jobs is underway.
His ‘revenge team’ has already been tearing through the National Archives and those who work there have good reason to be scared these days. Even people who didn’t actually take part in efforts to retrieve what Trump STOLE appear to be in trouble with Team Trump:
That includes staffers who played direct roles in the records standoff with the then-former president – and even some who weren’t, the report said. They are all part of a “list” Trump asked advisers to compile after his election victory in November of staffers at the government agency to fire as part of his vow to carry out retribution on his critics and those involved in his prosecutions.
“There are some in Trump’s ear who want him to oust everybody on the list,” Rolling Stone reported. “There are others close to Trump, including some senior White House staff, who think the final list of Archives staff to dismiss should be more carefully curated, as there are some names on the initial list who they feel were just doing their jobs and not worthy of blackballing.”
One can only hope that as the election approached, or just after all these people now in the crosshairs went out and bought legal insurance. If you didn’t know, there’s an actual legal ‘cottage industry’ in DC that provides legal insurance for federal employees should they need the services of a lawyer for matters pertaining to their government service. As for shutting down NARA entirely I wouldn’t bet against Trump at least trying. Why? Just to f**k with his predecessors who he envies. (Including Bush 43)
Trump never made any effort to establish a Presidential Library. The money has to come from the former Presidents to acquire a site/facilities and that means fundraising. Trump of course sees the money he raises for one purpose which is to increase his own wealth. He has HATED every dollar he’s had to shell out for campaigning (especially after he was no longer President hence the big drop-off in campaign events last year from 2020) and for lawyers. The kind of money, tens of millions if not over a hundred million to establish a first class Presidential Library is something Trump would never spend. However he has to resent, even HATE that his predecessors have terrific Presidential Libraries.
What many don’t know, or if they do often overlook is who minds all those millions of pages of records/documents. Especially the classified ones. Yep, it’s employees of the National Archives. I can easily see Trump saying to himself ‘If there’s no National Archives all the stuff in Presidential Libraries will have to be locked away in giant warehouses on some government property somewhere. No more of the public being able to view displays, and for sure no academics and researchers being able to comb through things too sensitive for public view. Not to mention the actual classified stuff. They’ll have to shut all their fancy schmancy libraries down!’ For Trump it would be a GREAT way to stick it to every predecessor, each of which was a superior President to Trump. Hell for all his faults and own criminality Nixon was a better President!
You know as well as I do that Trump likely thinks such thoughts. For now the most pressing concern is a lot of people losing their jobs for just doing their freaking jobs. Followed by criminal investigations and charges. And that’s only what we know so far!
