Only the best people. Or so Trump has always said when it comes to those working for him. Well, at least until they screw up enough to be relegated to Coffee Boy/Girl status. White House Briefings have, startlingly returned in Trump’s new administration but the way Karoline Leavitt has been going I wouldn’t count on them lasting. She’s already flubbed things and today she came up with a doozy in response to a question about why Trump hasn’t been talking about, much less doing anything to bring down food prices. I know I bought groceries today and wow. Well, Ms. Leavitt coined a new term – the “grocery pump.”
According to this short article from Raw Story she apparently wanted to shift from talking about big, regular grocery stores to places that sold food with gas pumps out front. Maybe she had Convenience Stores on the brain although some larger supermarkets sometimes have an ‘island’ way out in their parking lot where gas can be pumped too. In any case Leavitt flubbed:
When asked when Americans can expect grocery prices to come back down, Leavitt struggled to answer. Instead, she referred to the “grocery pump,” an apparent mix of “gas pump” and “grocery store.”
Okay, so people were pissed about gas prices during the election season and since. They did after all drop dramatically for a time under Trump. Because HE effed up COVID and the country pretty much shut down. Few people were driving which meant gas wasn’t selling. Alas, Americans and not just MAGAs tend to only remember those prices and NOT why for that stretch of time they were so low. However, hyping the cost of food and gas helped Trump win. The problem now is that MAGAs believed him when he said he’d take care of it (along with so much else) on “Day One.” Instead they heard him backing and filling with comments like ‘grocery prices (as in bring them down) are hard.’
Well, those prices aren’t coming down anytime soon so Trumpty and his gang are of course blaming Biden! A bad bout of avian flu took hold and farmers had no choice but to destroy a huge number of chickens to protect the public health. Hence all the focus on the cost of EGGS. That’s something easily noticed since eggs are a staple of most people’s diets. That friends brings me to the reaction to Leavitt’s “grocery pump” comment. It literally didn’t take fifteen minutes before a new account was up and running on Bluesky and I have a feeling it’s going to haunt her dreams:
Within just 15 minutes of her flub, someone had created an account on Blue Sky for the “Grocery Pump.” According to its biography, it’s concerned eggs are reaching $500 a gallon.
I’m wondering if I should create an account over on Bluesky. But the reaction wasn’t limited to that new platform. Elon’s Xsitter is getting it’s share of the action ridiculing Leavitt. For example:
“But ‘on day one…’!! Trump told us ‘I won on groceries. Very simple word, groceries…We’re going to bring those prices way down.’ I want my prices at the ‘grocery pump’ to go down NOW! I can’t afford the eggs I need to put into my tank,'” cracked former Republican Party chair Michael Steele on X.
There was plenty more reaction around the country in publications and newsrooms. It only takes a minute or so to read the linked article but you’ll enjoy it. Promise. What I can’t wait to see is if some outlet sends a reporter about to retire to the WH press briefing who will in the days or weeks ahead ask Leavitt about ‘the price of groceries at the pump’ and listen for the snickers from the other reporters. Let’s hope “grocery pump’ trends/goes viral on social media.

The thing I find amazing, among a slew of others, is the stupidity of liars orangebob shitpants fills his staff with.
