You’ve heard that FBI Director Christopher Wray has resigned from his position and he will end his term when Joe Biden ends his. Wray has another three years in the post, since Donald Trump appointed him seven years ago after the debacle of firing James Comey — on Jared Kushner’s advice. And then Trump called Chuck Schumer to brag and Schumer told him, “That was not a good idea.” Those were the days, like the song says.

In any event, Trump got wind of the resignation and of course he went on full tilt on social media. “The resignation of Christopher Wray is a great day for America as it will end the Weaponization of what has become known as the United States Department of Injustice,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I just don’t know what happened to him.”

What happened to Wray was actually really simple. Last week, Trump nominated Kash Patel, a sycophantic fascist eager to go after a list of the president-elect’s “deep state” enemies, to lead the FBI. Rather than be formally dismissed or chased out by the president-elect after he was sworn in, Wray—a Trump appointee who was slated to hold the position for three more years—resigned Wednesday.

“We will now restore the Rule of Law for all Americans. Under the leadership of Christopher Wray, the FBI illegally raided my home, without cause, worked diligently on illegally impeaching and indicting me, and has done everything else to interfere with the success and future of America.” Trump wrote. “They have used their vast powers to threaten and destroy many innocent Americans, some of which will never be able to recover from what has been done to them.”

There was nothing illegal in what happened but this is Ministry of Truth time and as you know, “Who controls the past controls the future, who controls the present controls the past.” So we are in full historical revisionism mode right now. Woe is us.

Trump continued, “Kash Patel is the most qualified Nominee to lead the FBI in the Agency’s History, and is committed to helping ensure that Law, Order, and Justice will be brought back to our Country again, and soon. As everyone knows, I have great respect for the rank-and-file of the FBI, and they have great respect for me. They want to see these changes every bit as much as I do but, more importantly, the American People are demanding a strong, but fair, System of Justice. We want our FBI back, and that will now happen. I look forward to Kash Patel’s confirmation, so that the process of Making the FBI Great Again can begin. Thank you!”

Wray announced his decision to step down Wednesday, telling his FBI employees that resigning was “the best way to avoid dragging the bureau deeper into the fray, while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important to how we do our work.” He will leave his position once Trump takes office in January.

J. Edgar Hoover is rolling in his grave right now, hearing that Kash Patel is the “most qualified nominee to lead the FBI.” And what might those qualifications be? I suppose the cartoonish children’s books he’s written about “King Donald” must be high on the list.

“The Plot Against the King,” follows “Hillary Queenton and her shifty knight” who “spread lies that King Donald had cheated to become King,” by “claim[ing] he was working with the Russionians!” Patel is depicted as a “Distinguished Discoverer” seen wearing blue wizard robes. On the cover, Trump is shown wearing a crown.

Trump said the “amazing book” should be “in every school in America.”

Maybe it will be in every school in America. And maybe billionaire Linda McMahon will see to it personally. I would not be surprised if this and Trump’s $60 Bibles end up showing up on every schoolkid’s chair.

Or, maybe it was his other book, Government Gangsters. “In a podcast appearance promoting the book, Patel vowed to “find the conspirators, not just in government but in the media.” He said that “[w]e’re going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections.” The appendix of the book includes 60 members of the “deep state” that Patel would target, including President Joe Biden, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Barr, and Wray. Trump called the book a “blueprint to take back the White House and remove these Gangsters from all of Government.”

This is the level of Idiocracy which is about to become the new abnormal, friends. This is our path forward. It was announced last week on social media that “Pete Hegseth is the hill to die on,” and evidently so is Kash Patel. And if you’re counting on four honest Republicans, good luck with that one.

I guess we’re going to find out how much the landscape of law enforcement in this country is going to transform. Tragic but true.

  1. J. Edgar Hoover might or might not be rolling in his grave right now, although I guess you could say he was more qualified than Kash Patel, not a high bar. But let’s not forget that Hoover was, also a power-mongering first-class S.O.B. who would have gotten along great with MAGA.
Stephen M. Underhill, in The Manufacture of Consent: J. Edgar Hoover and the Rhetorical Rise of the FBI explores Hoover’s intelligence connections with Mussolini and Hitler, and Lerone A. Martin, in The Gospel of J. Edgar Hoover: How the FBI Aided and Abetted the Rise of White Christian Nationalism, reveals Hoover’s deep commitment to racism.
