Hours Of Trump Hate. Biden Makes ONE Comment. Guess What News Is Harping On?

Well, Trump wanted to run against Biden and with the media’s help he’s making an attempt to do so this week.  Trump’s Saturday rally in New York was hours on end of demonization of “the other” but a key takeaway was the “comedy” set and the “joke” about Puerto Rico being a floating garbage patch in the ocean. And the crack about Hispanics ‘coming inside and not just during sex but to America.  Har Har!’ There was more from him, and plenty more from other speakers including Trump. You know the things they say. Here’s the thing though – Republicans want to pass of “jokes” and derisively say ‘get over it.’ To which I say ‘You mean the way you got over Hillary Clinton’s ‘deplorables’ remark? You a-holes STILL haven’t gotten over that one! (Gee, it’s like she was actually right!) So all of us non-MAGAs are supposed to just ‘get over’ some joke or awful comment from them, but let someone say something that gets THEM all butt-hurt and crank up the outrage. Alas, President Biden got quoted saying something they are going to town on and the ever indulgent media is happy to amplify their outrage.

Variety has an article you can read which contains the ‘offending’ quote. To me it’s not all that big a deal but then I don’t disagree with the sentiment even if it was said with the spirit and intent Republicans/MAGA claim.  Here’s a transcript of what President Biden said in a video to Latino voters on Tuesday:

In a video addressing Latino voters released Tuesday, Biden said, “Just the other day, a speaker at [Trump’s] rally called Puerto Rico a ‘floating island of garbage,’” referring to the offensive comment made by Tony Hinchcliffe at Trump’s Oct. 27 rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Biden then said, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters — his, his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American.”

Republican outcries were a revival of the Hillary and deplorables mess from back in 2016.  Clearly an attempt to take the focus off Harris (who has them running scared) and at the last minute to turn the race into Trump vs. BIDEN.  It was enough that the WH issued a transcript of the remarks with some clarification.  President Biden himself went on social media to say:

“Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump’s supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage — which is the only word I can think of to describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That’s all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don’t reflect who we are as a nation.”

Still, this has gotten an awful lot of media attention and taken away from Harris’ powerful speech and “closing argument.” WTF?  It’s a nothing burger!  A desperate last minute attempt to as I said make the Presidential race into Biden vs. Trump. That journalists can’t see through what the GOP is up to is astounding. Or worse, they DO realize exactly what Republicans/MAGA are up to and are willing to play along. Whether for ratings profit (controversy gets ratings as we all know) or out of fear Trump might win we don’t know. Maybe it’s a combination of the two. What matters is that in these crucial closing days the Harris campaign is, as some in journalism seem to be almost gleefully pointing out the WH and the Harris campaign is having to waste time cleaning this up!

Let’s backtrack.  Trump’s Saturday hate fest at Madison Square Garden, was a clear attempt to re-create an infamous Nazi rally held in the old Garden in 1939 was hour after hour of hate. Demonization of “the other” – pick a non-white group not of European ancestry and they got attacked. As vermin, criminals, animals, and of course “garbage” with the added thought of Hispanics being breeding machines.  It wasn’t just that so-called comedian spewing all that filth. Speaker after speaker said awful things. Hitler would have been mightily pleased. It was all his old hits put in modern American terms with some new stuff thrown in. Hell, he would have kicked himself at times in a ‘Why didn’t I think of that one!’ manner.

In truth, the GARBAGE that spouted forth from Madison Square Garden is what we’ve heard from Trump/MAGA since the day he announced his candidacy.  Hour, after hour after hour of vile, despicable, deplorable rhetoric with more than a little hint of promised action once Trump was back in the WH. News outlets didn’t have much of a choice. They had to cover what went on.  And the reaction since no one including Trump disavowed the “comedian’s” “jokes” might have a huge impact on the election.  Roughly 300k voters of Puerto Rican heritage live in Pennsylvania which will be 2024’s version of “Florida, Florida Florida.”

They are mightily pissed and for good reason, especially since they are being reminded of how the island was treated by Trump after being devastated by hurricane Maria. He tossed paper towels to the crowd but that was ALL he wanted to do. He tried to keep from sending a dime of FEMA assistance, instead wanting it all to go to red states also affected.  Lest people forget the folks in Puerto Rico are AMERICAN CITIZENS. They pay taxes, serve in the military and so on.  It’s also being pointed out the comedian’s comments were vetted. At least one joke was nixed, and even the one about Puerto Rico was we are now told debated – before it was all loaded into the freaking teleprompter!

Hispanics are a more complicated voting bloc than average Democrats (and even some of the political class) often realize.  However, this is getting attention and it could affect races in not just Pennsylvania but other states too. And not just for President. Might it tip the balance in Senate races in Florida and Texas? Could it cause both Arizona and Nevada to go blue and this time by more than a slim margin in the Presidential race?

Your freaking right if you were thinking, especially after Harris’ speech last night and how she met the moment the GOP has been in panic mode. They needed a distraction and in the worst way so count on them continuing to try to blow this up into a BFD. The ‘defining’ issue as in ‘That mean old doddering Joe Biden said something bad about us!’ The we love to dish it out but can’t take it MAGAs are nothing but a bunch of whiny-assed snowflakes.  But annoying as it is they DO want to make things all about this ONE Biden comment.

Worse, as I watched news today it seemed like the media is happy to play along. Most in the news biz suffer from a form of ‘Political Tourette’s’ – they can’t help themselves from certain things. In particular whether consciously or not they can’t help themselves from doing Trump’s bidding. If he or his minions say “jump” as in ‘go after Biden and leave me alone’ or ‘make me look normal, young and vigorous and Biden old and feeble’ they will react like Pavlov’s dogs.  If what I’ve seen so far today is any indication journalists are in fact trying to do what Trump wants, at least to some degree.

However there’s some good news in that some other stuff has come up that journalists are having to report on. As I last night and Jason this morning wrote here on PZ Nikki Haley has criticized Trump and his hate rally.  That’s news in part because it answers the question of whether Haley will be on the campaign trail alongside Trump in this last critical week. She won’t. None other that former Fox Aryan Queen Megyn Kelly has also taken a shot at the rally, questioning why Trump had that kind of lineup of speakers. She says she supports his policies but he’s having the wrong people speak with/for him.

Harris is as you’d expect pressing forward with her message of inclusion on hope. Unlike me, Kamala Harris has class. Me?  Well, as I told Ursula recently she wouldn’t recognize the Denis that existed prior to that awful moment eight years ago when I read and heard the words President-Elect Donald Trump. Until then virtually anyone who knew me would describe me as an easygoing guy, a “gentle giant” who easily made friends with anyone and I mean anyone.  That guy died right then and there to be replaced by a different person. I’d like to think the old me also had some measure of class, but that too is long gone.

I for one think that although Biden likely didn’t mean to come across as bluntly as some have taken it he was actually spot-on.  Those people who laughed Saturday night (and since) and reveled in all those hours of HATE, who have and still support Trump ARE garbage.  Ugly in spirit.  These are people in need of a ‘humanity transplant’, or at least a series of booster shots.  Many tens of millions of them. And millions are in fact beyond hope.  But they will be out there, looking to again build into a force that can do incalculable damage to this country and its ideals.  When THESE people talk about those who don’t worship Trump, and especially those who aren’t white and of European ancestry, “the other” using terms like animals, filth, vermin, GARBAGE, poisoning the blood of our country and so I say LOOK IN THE F**KING MIRROR A$$HAT!

Granted, that might not be something any of you want to do if in a discussion or debate but to any Trump supporter who cites Biden’s comment remind them of any of the many “jokes” Trump and his supporters have made over the years and say “Take your own advice on what Biden said and get over it!’

(I live in NC and just saw this story again on MSNBC with Trump here at an event citing this matter. Reporter Garret Haake says GOP operatives tell him they want to hang this Biden comment around Democrat’s necks. Trump talked about what Biden says and decries the thought of a President and Party that ‘hates Americans.’  WTF?  He’s spent years, and so have his MAGAs hating on ME and others.  Then again, a strong case could be made Trump and his asshats don’t consider me a ‘real American’ because I see him as the worthless pile of steaming excrement he actually is!  So, since Trump and his ilk don’t consider me and those like me actual Americans they can in their own f**ked up way claim they aren’t actually hating on fellow Americans.  Well, I know goddam good and well how much I am hated by Trump and MAGA. Right back at you a-holes!)
