The brave new world that Donald Trump envisions first of all has the GOP winning huge majorities in the House and Senate, not to mention the fact that he intends to win the White House. If you thought a GOP unified government was a farce the last time we saw one, 2017 through 2019, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Trump learned a lot from his first four years fumbling and bumbling and now he’s got a dictatorship planned and it all starts with the elimination of mail-in voting and creating an army of poll workers.
“Once Donald Trump is president, once we have a huge majority in the House, and we take back the Senate, then we can change the voting laws. Then you could have one day of voting, you could have paper ballots, you could have voter ID,” says Lara Trump.
And if you had wheels, you could be a wagon. The idea of not banking votes, like the Democrats do, is flat out insane. Even Kellyanne Conway and Ronna McDaniel have spoken to the issue of the importance of early voting and mail-in voting and they have been completely ignored. Trump doesn’t like mail-in voting because Democrats use it so much. He wants a situation where people who can’t get off work or school, or physically get to a poll, or physically stand in line once they get there, or need to use mail-in voting for a variety of reasons, are simply disenfranchised. That’s his plan. He wants Republicans, who tend to turn out on voting day more than Democrats, to continue to do that, and banked ballots to disappear.
And he’s got his whack-a-mole daughter-in-law in the process of recruiting a MAGA army of poll workers. Meidas Touch:
First, she said that the RNC will, for the first time, start an initiative where they recruit and train people to then get jobs as poll workers around the country so they have their MAGA partisans counting the ballots. In the past, both parties have always recruited “poll observers” who watch poll workers as they count the ballots. But this is much different.
So, the plan is to use the RNC, which is basically now a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Trump campaign, with people who are connected to the Trump campaign, to recruit and train people to work as poll workers counting the ballots on election day. As Lara Trump acknowledges here, this is something that has not been attempted before by the RNC.
“There was a moratorium on trained poll workers. These are people who are not just standing there looking around … These are people who can actually go in there and physically handle the ballots. They can count the ballots coming in, count the ballots going out.”
This is a terrifying prospect and of course, if Trump gets his hands on the polling process, then that’s it. He’s president for life and the GOP will be the Uni-Party that they so decry right now. This is the Orwell-esque game plan.
Even Republicans are saying that this is nuts.
Republicans want to make voting harder precisely for the reasons that David Jolly says, the more voters that vote, Democrats win. The GOPers know that as well as the yous and mes.
If you’re looking for a country where tyranny of the minority prevails, let along tyranny of one madman, that’s what a vote for Trump in November will buy you.
