Once again, you can’t make this stuff up. Vivek Ramaswamy resembles Donald Trump in many ways. He’s Trump’s epigone, his knockoff, his clone. And that includes even the fact that they’re both in the race for POTUS in order to escape legal problems. It’s not working for Trump and I daresay it won’t work for Ramaswamy.

Isn’t that intriguing? Here’s the back story. The New Republic:

Vivek Ramaswamy is trying to use his presidential campaign as an excuse to wiggle out of legal proceedings against him.

Ramaswamy was a board member of both Roivant Sciences, which he founded in 2014, and Sumitovant Biopharma until earlier this year. Sumitovant successfully negotiated to acquire Roivant subsidiary Myovant in October 2022. Under the deal, which was completed in March, Sumitovant agreed to pay $27 per share for all outstanding Myovant shares.

But soon after, the investment management firm Alpine Partners, a now-former Myovant shareholder, launched an appraisal rights lawsuit to determine that it and other shareholders had been fairly compensated for their stock. Alpine requested that Ramaswamy testify and provide materials about “how Sumitovant valued Myovant at the time of the merger and the negotiating process that led to the merger.” Alpine’s subpoena set Ramaswamy’s testimony for June 30; the filing also gave him a 30-day grace period to comply.

But he can’t be bothered, because he’s too busy running for the highest office in the land on the GOP ticket. My God, I thought it couldn’t get any worse than Trump but now I’m seeing Trump as the vanguard, the first wave, as it were, of what may become the new normal of the Republican party: rich assholes with legal problems looking to do a show biz spin and get elected to office.

Ramaswamy also insisted that he does not have “any material knowledge of the transaction that is the basis of the underlying Appraisal Proceeding.”

The judge has yet to rule on Ramaswamy’s motion. But Ramaswamy clearly thinks that he is above the law now that he is running for president.

So now we know: the GOP is the bastion where crooks go to hide. I have heard that religion is the last refuge of the scoundrel, no it’s not. The Republican party is.

  1. Now why would Bermuda, which is NOT part of the United States worry about what political machinations someone is getting up to in another country?

It’s a British Overseas Territory – and the Crown doesn’t care what US courts may decide.

  2. Ramasmarmy – another entitled jerk lying out of both sides of his mouth. And he may soon pass PiSantis I’m hearing. My parents, Eisenhower republicans must be turning over in their graves.

    • I know exactly how you feel. One of my best friends was an Eisenhower Republican and he knew Eisenhower because he worked at the Pentagon after WWII and before Korea. He also was a Texan and campaigned for Lyndon Johnson and took a lot of heat for that. But he and his wife (also a friend of mine) knew Lyndon and Lady Bird from Texas and I guess the Texas angle is stronger than the Republican connection. Don’t ask me. In any event, they would both be aghast if they were still alive. I’m glad they’re not here to see this.

  3. Eisenhower was a great man. Maybe the last great republican. He warned us about the military industrial complex. He would go down as great for helping to lead us to victory in WW2. No person is without flaws, but his place in history was pivotal.

    • Yes, he had his faults and some big ones. Still, he loved this country and was worried about where he believed we were headed. He tried to warn us at the end of his Presidency while he still had the “bully pulpit” but of course as with Edward R. Murrow and his “Lights and wires in a box” speech no one listened. There was much more in the speech this quote comes from but still, it’s worth printing out and putting on the wall:

  4. Great quote denis. Thanks. If only the tens of millions sitting in church, temple, and mosque truly had enough courage to live up to their faiths, instead of settling down in their comfort with hypocrisy, ignorance, and fear.
“you say you lost your faith. you know it’s not like that. you had no faith to lose and you know it.”
