Well, I guess it’s officially “on.” Chris Christie isn’t going to let Trump take free shots at him, and has gone on record challenging him to toss his insults mano-a-mano, face-to-face on a debate stage. As the title indicates, I don’t think Christie is going to leave it at that. He feels like he’s owed some payback on Trump!
I’ve been saying for a while Trump is scared, terrified even of being on stage live and on TV squaring off with former NJ Gov. Chris Christie. Christie is every bit a much a bully as Trump, but unlike Trump didn’t get to be one with daddy’s mega bucks and friends making sure no one pushed back. Nope, Christie earned his toughness (which he’d go on to abuse) by fighting against those who could punch back. Christie is smarter than Trump, can think on his feet faster than Trump ever dreamed of and is meaner than Trump. People might debate that last point and I suppose it’s debatable but practically speaking it doesn’t matter. Because Christie beats Trump in spades on the first two points. If Trump wants to wrestle in a muddy pig trough, Christie is just as comfortable doing so as he is.
Trump’s not faced that before.
He knows it. Christie knows it. And Trump knows Christie knows it.
Worse (if you’re Trump) Christie actually relishes the prospect of such a thing happening. In 2016 Trump was the bull in the china shop that was the GOP Presidential field. Others, conditioned by careers in politics not to get out of hand with insults, much less be crude didn’t know how to respond to Trump. He made them look weak. Christie? Trump can insult him and before he can turn to MAGAs in the audience and soak up their approval Christie will be hurling back even bigger insults. And worse sometimes they will include telling the truth on Trump!
Trump is already saying he’d skip the first debate. Frankly he doesn’t want there to be any at all. For damned sure he doesn’t want one where Christie meets the criteria to be on the stage and he’s no doubt working Ronna McDaniel and the RNC to find a way to keep Christie out. Even if he gets away with that he’s still going to have a problem. Journalists love controversy and conflict. Christie will be on news shows every day calling Trump the “C” word – either coward or chicken or both.
Here’s a thought. DeSantis has nothing to lose at this point by joining in! If just one other person joins Christie in repeatedly calling Trump out as a coward or chicken it could become a chorus. At that point Trump can either confirm it by refusing to “play” or take his chances. Who knows? Trump’s ego has allowed him to talk himself into all manner of stupid things in the past. It’s possible Christie alone, who is already living rent-free in his head might get him to make the mistake of engaging in a “insult cage match” live on TV!
Over and over again Christie will call Trump out for being afraid to “say it to my face on the debate stage Donald!”
You go, Chris Christie!! Don’t mess with a fellow Paisan~Christie will chew Trump up and spit him out!!

Christie doesn’t want to win. He wants to take out trump and he has a big chunk of the money donors behind him to keep him in the race until trump is taken down. The money guys figured out depathetic was not the guy and need someone to take trump down so another candidate can emerge. That is what to look for.
Everybody should give $1 to Christie’s campaign so that he meets the minimal threshold numbers needed to participate
in the debate.
“DeSantis has nothing to lose at this point by joining in!” Reminds me of that line of Bob Dylan’s, “When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose.” But in DeSantis’s case I don’t think he has anything to gain either, it won’t make him look any better. Christie on the other hand … but I agree with OGD that Christie’s aim here is not to win the nomination but to take Trump out.
It’s wonderful, a situation where the always vocal Christie, being in the optimal position of the right party, the right office pursuit, carrying THOR’s hammer, and knows LOTS of things about his former friend’s past and therefore, almost EVERY soft spot in Trump’s defense system of talk-overs left field stupid ideas as facts, repeats of ancient rhetoric, showing all the codes coming that Christie is fully aware of … The huge hissing noise on the debate stage will be Trump’s final salute to the American Flag … Have a great time, Chris, reduce that traitor to the sniveling worthless wart on our damaged past, he really is …
That’s a show I would watch. Even on Pay Per View.

A duel of wits with an unarmed opponent. Christie has this one in the bag. If former guy had any sense at all he’d be pissing himself right now. I’m no fan of Christie but I do relish the thought of him wiping the floor with mango man. The only problem I can think of is the magats are about as unburdened with knowledge as former guy so they likely won’t understand Christie any more than trump will.
