It’s going to be a very interesting week and an intriguing summer, politically speaking. First out of the gate, on Wednesday Ron DeSantis is expected to formally throw his hat in the ring for POTUS. Newsmax, if you asked them today, would probably tell him not to bother, based on their most recent poll.
Despite recent legal battles and DeSantis’ unofficial moves into the spotlight, 69% of registered GOP Floridian voters say they will back Trump in 2024, according to the poll conducted by Florida Atlantic University and Mainstreet Research. Eighteen percent of survey participants say they “somewhat support” Trump.
Survey participants said they would back Trump 59% over DeSantis at 31%.
The poll talked to 1,081 registered voters in Florida between April 13-14.
Talking to registered voters is better than simply talking to people over 18, which is what the recent Washington Post-ABC poll did, to the chagrin of one and all.
DeSantis is polling at 14% right now and every day Donald Trump posts new polls that he finds who knows where, that show him leading at 68% to dazzling numbers in the 80s. Trump always was good at finding polls that made him look invincible.
The theory is that the “not Trump” vote will be split into four or five pieces, and Trump can easily sail to victory. Already, former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) has entered the race. Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) is in, too, and will have a ceremonial announcement this week. Former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) also announced earlier this year, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy announced in February.
The Trump campaign isn’t being cagy about it, either.
“To say we welcome Tim Scott to the race would do a disservice to the service he’s doing us,” a Trump confidant told The Messenger. “Ron is supposed to announce his campaign next week, and he’s going to find it’s going to be a lot more crowded than he originally figured.”
We’ll know soon enough what DeSantis’s fate is going to be. He’s likely shot himself in the foot by alienating Disney in the first place, let alone his public, protracted contention with them. Big GOP money may decide that Ron isn’t ready for prime time and in that case, it’s been a nice ride, and the governor will sit in his mansion and hopefully figure out how to run his state, because he won’t be going too far beyond it. The DeSantis train could have a short and abrupt run down the track.

From Wikipedia: Cotham was married to state Democratic Party chair Jerry Meek. The two have since divorced.[16]
Cotham has two sons.[17] Cotham lives in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Cotham identifies herself as a Christian.[18]
Two sons…perhaps she will find herself needing those abortion services again, after all? Such a good “xian”. Obviously a protestant with that divorce hanging over her head….
Oops, sorry, I had multiple windows open. This was in response to the wire hangers post. Please feel free to delete it. I would, if I could, but I don’t see how.
