There may be such a thing as poetic justice after all. The clip you’re about to see is intriguing in and of itself. It shows Chris Cuomo, who used to ride high at CNN before scandal brought him low, interviewing Bill O’Reilly, same description except at Fox News.

The two of them ruminating on the fate of yet two other TV hosts, Don Lemon and Tucker Carlson, is intriguing.

Lemon’s sins, compared to the other people already named herein, are lightweight. Tucker Carlson’s sins, however, compared to the others are pretty damaging. Far be it from me to weigh sins, I’ll leave that to a much higher power, but if you look at what Lemon, O’Reilly, and Cuomo did collectively and put it up against Carlson’s actions, Carlson still arguably has them beat.

At least, this seems to be the viewpoint of Rupert Murdoch and yes, as opined earlier today on this blog, it was indeed the 60 Minutes interview with Ray Epps, where Epps said that Carlson had ruined his life and described how he was now living as a fugitive with his wife in their RV, “somewhere in the Rockies” that was the last straw for Rupert Murdoch.

Murdoch saw another kazillion dollar lawsuit coming down the pike. That’s what I said this morning and that’s what O’Reilly said earlier tonight.

The Epps 60 Minutes interview came across very sympathetically. Epps is a former Marine and he came across as a strong, opinionated man but also a decent one and one who can be reasoned with. I’m sure that if I saw his credibility, Rupert Murdoch could not fail to do so.

Epps didn’t say a word about suing Carlson or Fox News but he didn’t have to. He made it clear that he had asked Fox to clarify matters and apologize and they did not do so. Epps is an election denier, so I don’t want to paint him too favorably, but he emphatically was not doing what Carlson depicted him as doing. Epps was Carlson’s victim.

The question that comes up now and will come up over and over again with respect to Tucker Carlson, is why was he allowed to run so wild for so long? And not just him, certainly. All of Fox News.

The Abby Grossberg lawsuit is going to be fascinating. There will be a lot of detail on how Carlson did not hesitate to trash women, for their looks, their voices, it didn’t matter. It was open season on women 24/7.

And Jews and other ethnicities didn’t fare so well at his hand, either. This is allegedly all documented in Grossberg’s suit.

Like so many things in life, Carlson wasn’t done until he was done. And listening to Ray Epps, a credible man who came across as truthful and decent, election denier and all, was the end. The nano second when Murdoch made his decision was probably when the 60 Minutes announcer intoned that the FBI was contacted and verified that Epps was “neither a source nor had ever been an employee” of the FBI.

And so on a quiet Sunday night a pyrotechnic propaganda career ended. Zap. Just like that.

The ultimate irony here is that Murdoch did what he did and when he did it, not out of any sense of decency. Heavens, no. He just got keenly in tune with what was happening with his bottom line. That’s what caused the big housekeeping move.

Should we even bother to tell him that if he just had led Fox News along guidelines that were more reasonable and respectable to begin with, he never would have found himself in this position? Nah. Don’t bother. Doubtlessly many others have tried. If I’m sure of one thing, I’m sure of that.

Moral of the story: You might think a moral compass is for suckers, but a decently calibrated one will keep you out of court, guaranteed.

  2. Only suckers think a moral compass is for suckers. One can keep you out of court but it can also offer you a far better, far more enjoyable and far more rewarding life than living as a money-grubbing sleazeball ever can.

  4. Well, if it WAS the 60 Minutes interview with Epps that was the final straw, then CBS redeemed themselves a bit after interviewing MTG and letting her spew her usual venom and nonsense in a previous week. And what is wrong with men at these companies that they don’t get it about keeping their hands, words and other parts off their women co-workers??? How difficult is it to look around and see the results of poor decision making and predatory behavior by their counterparts? You’d think by now these pervs would have gotten the message. Don’t touch. Don’t think of touching. Don’t talk of touching. Keep it to yourself. Don’t be stupid!

    • Too right. But creepers gonna creep. It’s that Andrew Tate small dickbrain energy. They all think they’re being kuul and mahnly. Legends in their own minds.
