It remains to be seen whether Donald Trump really does appear for the first time inside a Lower Manhattan criminal court when Monday rolls around. We already know he’s had a spotty record in that department. But if there’s one thing I do know it’s this: His evangelical base will likely drop off like fleas from a deceased dog.

Former Colorado congressman Ken Buck shares a similar, if less colorful opinion, according to Raw Story. He’s making it clear that Trump could be seriously hurt once the trial gets underway and some pretty unsavory (read: yucky) details wind up in the public eye in this notorious case where he is alleged to have fudged his business records to keep payments made to prevent his flings with Stormy Daniels and former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal from going public in the run-up to the 2016 election.

“The key to me is the essence of this case has to do with donald trump having an extramarital affair; they are paying a woman to have that affair and then paying that woman to not talk about the affair during the campaign for president in 2016,” buck said in an interview with cnn.

As the sleazy details about Trump’s purported philandering and his attempts in secret to hide the details may turn off a swath of his faithful Christians. That’s right, they’re okay with his obvious racism and fascism but just don’t stray outside your marriage and you’re good with God.

But that’s fanatical Christians for you.

“That will turn off a lot of Republican evangelical, Christian voters,” Buck said. “And I think they will be hard-pressed to support this president, regardless of whether he is convicted or not convicted.”

Buck also explained: “It’s important to remind folks of the essence of this case and where it began.”

And it all began with that $130,000 payment that, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, the ex-president paid to Daniels for her silence and the $150,00 that was ponied up by the National Enquirer parent company AMI for McDougal to bury the stories where she also claimed she was in a sexual relationship with Trump.

We’ve all seen photos of evangelical leaders placing their hands on Trump, but after the trial gets underway on Monday, they might want to wash their hands or use a little hand sanitizer.

Anything to get the Trump taint off of them. I’ve included a clip of Buck airing his thoughts on CNN.

  1. Ken buck is full of crap as usual. he’s just using this as an excuse to get on tv now that he’s out of office. the basics, and in fact a lot of the details, have been known for a very long time and neither buck nor his fellow hypocrites had any problems with it before. adultery seems to be a prerequisite for joining that group. that said, if they want to use this as an excuse to dump Trump that’s fine with me.

    • Ordinarily I’d agree with you. Details about Trump’s sleaze have been out there for a long time and RWNJ “Christians” have voted for him because that’s what their leaders told them to do. However, he’d bled some support with younger ones in that group and even among older ones there are indications support has softened a bit. I think the E. Jean Carrol case where a jury found him guilty of rape might have had a hidden impact. It’s one thing to hear accusations and take Trump’s word when he denies them and yells “fake news” but when a jury weighs evidence in court, and in a place like NYC which to Evangelicals is den of sin and rules Trump is guilty then that gets their attention. That’s still not enough for most of them, and again Trump claiming fake news they’ve been willing to overlook the stuff with Daniels and McDougal. Once it gets presented in court under oath and challenged by Trump’s lawyers if he’s found guilty I think it might indeed cost Trump votes. Especially if David Pecker provides evidence of yet more examples of women Trump screwed around with that we don’t know about.

Add that in with his sudden waffling on abortion and I think these “Christians” will, at least many of them watch the goings on in Manhattan without their rose colored glasses and actually think about things. And not like what they see. Not that they will vote for Biden, but NOT voting for Trump is good enough. Even losing a few percent of those folks in some states will be enough to swing some key states. And if Evangelical leaders get pissed at him for backing off from a national abortion ban and start trashing him? He’ll be toast.

      • Nick, I sense hostility, but gosh man, don’t take it out on Baron. He is truly innocent of the perpetual crimes of his father. And as to his mother, is your point that she is the only woman in history who ever married someone for money? C’mon.

  2. before everyone forgets, Enron, the biggest ripoff of workers, and share holders of all time
Lay died, and Skilling did a few years
    everybody else walked
    convictions were appealed
    in Texas
and they walked they all walked away
My opinion, don’t get excited about Federal Prosecutor, they are legend for getting headlines
and letting the rich walk away.its who they serve.

  3. Former guy’s infidelity issues are many, well-known, and have been for decades. His adulterous behavior is the least of things which ought to turn off con xtians. Nothing up to now has turned away that group of particularly moronic hypocrites so thinking the hush money trial would do so is a bit silly.

  4. remember those major evangelical leaders who grudgingly admitted that Obama was in fact a Christian while the Mormon church was Satan worship but vote for Romney anyway. as spike said, they’ve known about this all along and don’t care. it may peel off a few votes but not many. the waffling on abortion will be a bigger deal, maybe. they still know that if elected Trump will give them what they want.

  5. They have known the boring details for a,LONG time. They have viewed the Access tape. They know about Daniels and McDougal. That doesn’t matter to them because it happened before he got jesused. According to them he is now a new baby Christian. His past sexual history happened before that,,and now that he has been Saved, all is forgiven. They love repentant sinners, and trump at least got the sinner part right. j
    Hallelujah!
The minor fact that he has never actually repented as he admitted in an interview, doesn’t set foot in a church (he goes only for social occasions like weddings and funerals,, and looks bored stiff when he does), has never read the Bible, and probably couldn’t say even the first two sentences of the Our Father doesn’t seem to matter because he hates, the same people they do.

  6. Ken Buck may well be speaking about this trial as honestly as he knows how – take that for what it’s worth. But he’s wrong when he says that theis case is about straying outside one’s marriage it isn’t The adulteryi s not liiegal, and the hush money was only the weapon. The charge is election interference. (I should make that “charges” plural
    – but then I’d have to count them.)
And is a New York State case, so the prodecutor is nor a federal prosecutor, for what that’s worth. There are some current and former federal prosecutors I have great respect for, and some that I don’t. And all are human, We have neither a superhuman nor a noonhuman pool from which to select them.

  7. I think there’s a very real possibility Trump will go down on this hush money case. They managed to shoe horn it in and the judge appears to not want any of Trumps crap in his courtroom. And as far as federal cases. I seen that Cannon decided she went a little to far and she also decided it’s a good time to drop the Trump case. The appeals court up in Georgia just ripped her ruling to shreds. Her boss up in Washington just got onto her to. Can’t remember her name. But apparently at this time she’s running the show on the documents and she’s pissed off about it. I’d say look out, Donnie boy. You just kicked a hornets nest.
