Folks, there is stupid and then there is GOP stupid.
“Change is hard. Humans are creatures of habit and it’s in our nature to avoid change. Transitioning our personal transportation fleet from vehicles that burn fossil fuels to plug in electric vehicles is going to be a massive undertaking.
And as with all new disruptive technologies, there will be winners and losers as the old tech is shuttered while the new technology proliferates. The oil and gas industry already knows that electric vehicles are poised to replace the internal combustion engine vehicles that it caters to, and the demand for its products will radically decrease in the coming years.
But that doesn’t mean they aren’t going down without a fight.
Wyoming, for instance, just introduced legislation with the hopes of phasing out the sale of electric vehicles in the state by 2035. The legislation sponsor, Sen. Jim Anderson, R-Casper, told Cowboy State Daily the reason he introduced the resolution was “to push back against bans on new sales of cars with internal combustion engines in states like California and New York.” …
… However, as with everything, the devil is always in the details. Once you read through the resolution and get to sections one and two at the bottom, you can see this is more of a symbolic gesture than an outright ban.”
Well, that’s good anyway, cause you’ll be hard pressed to buy a new gas guzzler by 2035.
This news caught the attention of Twitter wrangler Fifty Shades of Whey and his peeps had thoughts:
Did you get the part where they send it to Gavin Newsom? grow the fuck up. And every automaker said they won't sell ICE models in 2025. It shuts down every dealership in the state. If I was Biden, I'd respond to this w/"Well, I guess we'll phase out transit funding to Wyoming."

They have horses. Expect to be late.

🤣
This is going to be a trend among GOP controlled states. NC tried to destroy all EV Chargers.

The stupid; it’s contagious.
What will they do when they no longer make gas engines? Go to horse and buggy?

Whereas we like money and don’t want to put in any effort to change…
Whereas all Republican legislation should be focused on owning the libs…
Whereas we will never ever accept climate science no matter how bad things get…
Whereas we won’t be alive to suffer the consequences…— Joseph O (Parody) (@enemy4thepeople) January 15, 2023
Yup
Is a joint resolution the same as a bill? This thing seems nonbinding, which would do nothing. In which case that would be good. But once again a state legislature facing real problems is wasting everyone’s time.

It’s what they do.
Quick search for stats show about 210,000 total private vehicles in Wyoming. That looks like a rounding error for the big three. I'm sure Ford/Chevy/Dodge are worried.

Wagon trains served as an important mode of transportation of goods and people, critical to Wyoming. Bring back covered wagons. pic.twitter.com/JgevgFtgLB

I rented a EV for a road trip through Colorado and it was a breeze. Cheaper, more convenient, car charges going downhill, and it’s silent so to not scare off all the wildlife. I don’t see the problem beyond not wanting to give up the giant truck.

You just know the Idaho GOP is going to break their brain trying to come up with something stupider.
Shouldn’t be a problem.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with my family. Mom floated the idea of a sealed-off area where the cars could just roam free. Wyoming has enough space to make that happen.
Man, am I getting tired of the Many Assholes Growing Agitated crowd.
My mother is a maga (Ugh!!!). Every time she brings up electric vehicles she laughs and says they are ridiculous and expensive and there are no chargers anywhere. There’s no changing the minds of the ignorant. They don’t understand, nor do they want to understand.
There’s stupid, there’s GOP stupid, and then there is Wyoming stupid. I’m not saying MT is a state with very many intellectuals residing in it (it isn’t) but we look down on our neighbors to the south and continually shake our heads in disbelief. This is a state which had some of the most scenic, precious, breathtaking, etc. land and turned it into one tremendous shithole with open pit mining, oil drilling, fracking, etc. They left no area untouched where it was feasible to drill, dig, or in any way extract filth from the ground. It smells so bad in the state (fracking and drilling stink to high heaven) you cannot wait to get out of there. Towns anywhere near these open pit mines have populations with lung problems in percentages much, much larger than pretty much anywhere in the country-probably on par with countries with the worst pollution on the planet.
The worst of all this is they don’t stay in WY-they spread these filthy practices all over calling themselves “wildcat drillers” and crap like that. What they ought to be called are “criminal fucks” and treated accordingly.
There’s a lot of coal in Wyoming. I’m surprised they don’t want to encourage coal-powered everything.
What about electric horses and cows? Did they outlaw those?
When our car died, we needed an immediate replacement. We wanted a hybrid, but that would have required a special.order and a wait. When we replace it, it will be a hybrid.
The biggest problem with EVs is the mile range. 350=5 hours at 70mph. Until you can recharge simply and essiky, as easily as pulling into.a gas station, they suck for long trips. At this point I can pull.into any gas station, fill.it up.and pee and be gone in ten minutes. At this point the infrastructure for recharging easily and efficiently and quickly doesn’t exist so you need a second vehicle for longer road trips. Now if every fast food joint and restaurant off major highways have charging stations, it becomes feasible, but not until. I am.moving later this year. It is an 6-8 hour trip depending on traffic (NJ and NY ) and around 350 miles. An EV won’t cut it.
