Rudy G. is sipping Johnny Walker Blue and puffing on high-end Cuban cigars after his court appearance yesterday. All the while chortling ‘Ooh – she threatened me with jail! Like she’d actually put ME in jail.’ That’s exactly what Judge Howell should have done instead of granting Rudy ANOTHER thirty freaking days to get a lawyer!
Still, as noted in this article from Raw Story that’s what went down yesterday. Rudy, who’d been summoned to court to answer for continuing to violate the judge’s orders pleaded about lack of legal representation. His pleading, which I still can’t believe got the judge to give him what he wanted:
When asking for the 30-day extension, Giuliani claimed he could not retain an attorney to represent him because Howell was “unreasonable and biased about Trump and related matters.”
“Some were willing to assist in other cases, but not this one,” Giuliani wrote.
Look, Rudy knew exactly why he’d been summoned to court. I don’t believe for one second he couldn’t find a lawyer for that hearing. The fact he offered a seasoned, respected federal judge what was basically a ‘Sorry judge, but a dog bit my lawyer and ran off with his briefcase’ line of bullshit and the judge let him get away with it is infuriating!
I’m sure you’re familiar with the Miranda Warning. The wording varies slightly between jurisdictions including some saying things like even if you answer questions you can stop at any time. What I want to focus on right now is the part about having ‘the right to an attorney, and if a person can’t afford an attorney then the court appointing one for them.’ Judge Howell should have called a recess, then the public defender’s office and had them send someone to her court right away. THEN she should have reconvened court, introduced Rudy to his new lawyer and told them both to be back today (Tuesday) to address Rudy’s violation of the judge’s order to stop defaming Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss. And that they could consult from the visitors room at the jail Rudy would have been staying in last night! Anyone want to bet that today instead of that public defender Rudy would have a shiny new lawyer in a nice suit sitting there with him?
If you or I disrespected a judge and court the way Rudy has done our butts would be in jail. Plain and simple. Rudy has given this judge more than one instance in which it would have been quite justified to toss his smug ass in the slammer. Getting yet another break tells the country yet again there are rules MOST of us have to respect and play by, but for a select handful of people those rules don’t apply.
That’s why I’m way the hell past disappointed with Judge Howell! I’m FURIOUS! It’s not like there’s anything to be afraid of with Trump. He was done with Rudy long ago. It finally sunk into Trump Rudy had done him more harm than good. And if anything continued joint efforts would turn out even worse. I also doubt most of MAGA cares much about Rudy anymore either. They too know he damaged their ‘hero’ Trump more than he helped.
If there was at least SOME justice in all the Trump goings on as I write this Rudy would be sitting there in some prison cell. Sick to his stomach over the prison food he had for dinner and what he’d eaten earlier today. While I’d love for him to have gotten thirty days for contempt (as in getting to spend Christmas behind bars) I’m betting just a week of it would be enough to cause a major attitude adjustment. Such that just a suggestion from Judge Howell that the bailiff’s would be happy to take him back to lockup would move proceedings along faster and smoother than has been the case.
Frankly it’s the only thing that WILL do so. The village idiot knows that. Why doesn’t Judge Howell? I’m sure attorneys for Freeman and Moss would love to ask Judge Howell why she’s put up with so much from Rudy. And point out that nothing has worked but the ONE thing that could be done but hasn’t is to throw his ass in jail for a while. Alas, Freeman and Moss are regular people and openly questioning a judge, even via their attorney would get THEM in trouble. While the Rudy Giuliani types abuse judges and the system over and over and get away with it.
If the courts won’t do with Trump what they’d do to ANY other person, is it too much to ask judges and the courts at least treat the other rich and/or powerful people, starting with Rudy G. somewhat more like they would us regular folks? LOCK HIM UP!!!
