History is replete with examples of really shitty governments offering terrible governing principles, but most of them have 1 thing in common. A strong, charismatic superstar at the top who brings it all together. And once they’re gone, there’s no replacement.

Hitler lost at Russian roulette in 1945, Mussolini the year before. We still have fascism as a political movement today, but it’s weak and ineffective without that binding charismatic leader. The same with communism after the passing of Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and Fidel Castro. The political movements still exist, but without the popular, charismatic Messiah figure, the movement itself is so toxic that it remains a minority movement.

And right now, Florida Governor Ron Deathsantis is the new poster child for why, once Trump passes from the scene, Trumpism will join communism and fascism as permanent minority political movements. Lately pundits of all stripes have been fond of saying that Trumpism will beleaguer us long after Trump himself is gone.

Trump isn’t even gone yet, and already Pissantis is making the pundits look like idiots. Since the day Pissantis took office in Florida, he has been recasting himself as the 2024 GOP presidential version of Trump without the baggage of Trump. And he’s blowing it in the time honored GOP tradition, by being as dumb as a box of rocks.

Here’s how it breaks down. Deathsantis got tired of rival GOP Governor Greg Abbott getting all the press for shoving undocumented immigrants on motor coaches, and shipping them off to Chicago, New York, and Washington DC that he decided to pull an even better stunt.

Pissantis had already passed through the legislature not one, but 2 laws setting him up with a $12 million slush fund to remove unauthorized immigrants from the hallowed shores of Florida and plunk them somewhere else instead. But it turns out that, having no direct border with Mexico or Central America, undocumented immigrants in Florida were harder to find than transgender teens, and former convicts that Florida had issued voting cards. So he improvised.

He sent minions to Texas to find brown miscreants that he could con into getting onto airplanes with promises of free fast food, free housing, and immigration assistance and jobs when they got to their destination, either Boston or Philadelphia, depending on the story. And then he flew them to Florida for a quick photo op, and then on to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.

But here’s the crown jewel of this whole 3 card monte game. He’s getting crucified for it, and even within his own party. He’s got a Democratic sheriff in Texas investigating him for possible crimes committed in Texas. He has a Florida GOP state Senator filing a lawsuit against him for violating either one of the new laws, depending on which excuse he wants to use. Some of the Venezuelan asylum seekers have a lawyer, and are seeking class action status to sue Pissantis for civil rights violations. And multiple GOP lawmakers in Florida are looking for microphones with which to dump a load of shit on DeSanctis’s head.

Here’s the McGuffin. Pissantis is supposed to be Trump 2.0, all the bullshit without all of the right up front racism, sexism, xenophobia, and misogyny. But almost every task that DeSantis has undertaken since inauguration has been pure Trump, just with window dressing and the racist, sexist shit not being said out loud. And when he gets caught? Members of his own party in the state come at him like the Roman Senate after Caesar on the steps of the Senate. And if they’re doing that, it means constituents aren’t happy.

This is why Trumpism is doomed. Whatever DeSantis has done, if Trump had done the same damn thing, does anybody here believe that there would have been even a peep, much less than multiple GOP uprisings against whatever it was that Trump did? Of course not. Trump is, as Liz Cheney described a fellow GOP House member as describing him, The Orange Jesus. Nobody messes with Trump.

This should serve as a discretionary warning to DeSantis, Abbott, Cruz, Hawley, and all the other craven cowards trying to slingshot off Trump’s coattails and knock him out in 2024. Get it through your thick skulls, knuckleheads. There is only one Trump! Nobody would dare to question or criticize Trump for anything he does. But nobody has quite the shine and magic armor that Trump does, and when they try it, the long knives come out, even in their own party, by opponents who smell weakness. Here endeth the lesson.

  1. While Abbott and “Sanchez” have been getting the Bad Housekeeping Seal Of Approval for their antics as governors, Youngkin in Virginia is the guy to watch for the future party of Liz Cheney (whatever name it may take). Under his bland exterior, he does damage more quietly but no less viciously. And he’s going to be on the scene long after the Trumpist loudmouths are gone.

    • I agree he’s a cause for concern. I lived in Virginia the better part of twenty years and another ten just over the state line in the eastern panhandle of WV, getting my news out of the main DC stations which of course covered VA and its politics. Youngkin was able to hide behind Critical Race Theory to somehow thread the needle of getting Trump to tell MAGAs to vote for him, yet maintaining so-called plausible deniability he was a RWNJ who would do shit Trump and the MAGA would love. Once he took office of course the mask came off. In Virginia a Governor can hold the office more than once but they can’t run for a second, successive term. In that sense at least VA will only have to put up with this guy for another few years but he’s already done a lot of damage and can do far more, especially if the GOP does well in November.

Where I’m not so sure he’s a major threat nationally is that he’s got about as much charisma as a wet mop. That’s why I was kind of surprised Trump backed him – he doesn’t “play” all that well on TV and in a national campaign I think he’ll get drowned out. But hey, I could be wrong. Still, if worst happens and the GOP regains the WH in 2024 Youngkin is someone who would be invaluable to a RWNJ GOP President. That means he’s dangerous no matter what.

      • “That means he’s dangerous no matter what.” That means you’re brainwashed. You need to read things you don’t like to read. Knowing both sides prevents you from being brainwashed. It’s actually very difficult to do. It’s your choice now.

        • You obviously aren’t paying attention–we do read things we don’t like. Where do you think we get the little gems deifying these magat a-holes?

A very large storm is making its way to FL. Let’s see how Desantis fucks this one up.

          • What an idiot. Obviously you’re not paying attention to the news. Yesterday he put Florida under a state of emergency. He already covered himself. It’s going to hit. And it might hit big. He’s a genius to call an emergency, before the destruction. It’s being preparing before the incident. He’s a governor who cares.

  2. The DeSantis Martha’s Vinyard stunt was over the top. I guess that is why all the people involved have gone underground. and the stunt has not been repeated. Abbott can continue with his busses. I am not that offended by that. People really want to get away from the border and closer to family etc. A free bus ride helps with that, thanks to Texas taxpayers. It would be nice if dick abbott was not such a dick about it and let people know when busses are arriving or not dropping them off far from services. Here in San Antonio Catholic Charities runs the migrant center with support from the city. It has its problems, but it is also a shining beacon from a community that takes in all and supports them.

  3. “Hitler lost at Russian roulette in 1945, Mussolini the year before.”

Murf, I understand the point you were going for here but the way it’s written, you’ve made it seem as though Mussolini also played, and lost at, Russian roulette when, in fact, Mussolini was captured by partisans and executed just 2 days before Hitler’s little game of Russian roulette. Mussolini’s fall from power in 1943 was actually due to the democratic process; a vote of no confidence was taken by Mussolini’s Fascist Party shortly after the Allies began their invasion of Italy and the King removed him from power and replaced him with another Fascist Party official. About 6 weeks later, the King signed an armistice with the Allies and German Waffen-SS members rescued Mussolini who then declared a new “Italian Social Republic” in the Axis-controlled sector of Italy. In April of 1945, as the Allied invasion continued up the Italian Peninsula, Mussolini and his mistress–along with a few other officials–attempted to escape to Switzerland when they were captured by Communist partisans and then summarily executed on April 28, 1945 (two days before Hitler’s suicide). (Under the terms of the armistice signed in 1943, Mussolini and all other top officials, if they were captured, were to be turned over to Allied forces–acting under the auspices of the “United Nations”*–to be tried for war crimes, much like the future Nuremberg trials.)

*”United Nations” was a term used by the Allies as early as 1942 for official purposes and would later be appropriated for the political organization that would be formally established in 1945.

  4. Yeah red nazipig. Pissantis was a genius asking Biden for help. Good thing Biden is a moral human being & will do what’s right. Not like your punk who throws plates, having a temper tantrum cuz his depends is full, and helped only the states that he stole the votes from. A punk through & through.
