Whoop! Here We Go!

I’m assuming everyone knows about the measles outbreak and that it’s spreading, right? Well, RFK Jr is making a mess of it. Let’s start with the obvious. He is touting a treatment plan that doesn’t work. Vitamin A, a steroid, and clarithromycin. Well. First of all, measles is a virus and is not affected by any one of those. Vitamin A *might* be used in very severe cases, but does not do much for healthy patients, just for malnourished children overseas. In general, our children do not have that problem. So, he’s putting information out there that is pretty much wrong.

He’s waffling about actually *telling* people to get the vaccine. This is 97% effective for children to only get a mild case, or possibly not at all. But he’s *still* saying it’s a personal choice. How did these children get into school without it? And how easily could they spread it to other unvaccinated children? At least the vaccinated children have a chance of only getting a mild case, or do not get it at all. There is a very good reason why this is highly recommended. I would hope the news about the spread of this would make parents think twice about getting it. Plus, it has the potential of spreading outside the original group. It’s already a mess there!

Then he wanted to talk about vaccines and risks. “The CDC, in the past, has not done a good job at quantifying the risk of vaccines,” Kennedy said. “We are going to do that now so that people can make a real, informed choice about what’s best for them, for their families and their communities.” I believe the vaccines outweigh the risk of side effects. He’ll do this, and send out the information, and people won’t get vaccines because they think they will be one of the very few who get the side effects, from small to big. That’s not smart. As a matter of fact, it could also be termed stupid. One of my family members didn’t get anything beyond the first round of Covid vaccines because she was afraid of side effects.

How about downplaying infectious diseases? He thinks bird flu has been around for 100 years, but it was identified in China in 1996. He said about 70 people are known to have gotten sick, and it was all the people involved in the culling of birds. Guess what? The majority of cases were in the dairy profession. He is blowing off how serious this could be, and that’s hurtful, because we could end up with another epidemic like the flu pandemic.

RFK Jr is questioning Covid and why the US had the highest death rate from it. He thinks it was an underlying disease in the population at large. He thinks people were hanging onto life by their fingernails and Covid came around and stomped on their fingers. Whaaaaaaat? Stuff and nonsense.

He has a kernel of truth in what he is saying, but then he goes off the rails. Remember how he is going to tackle chronic disease, and Make America Healthy? He’s seriously going about it in the completely wrong way. His antivax beliefs are showing. What have you done to us, Senate?
