Donald Trump on Saturday proposed a new end-run around the Supreme Court’s major tariff smackdown, leading observers to call on him to take his medication. The president, over the weekend, took to Truth Social to announce he was raising the global tariff rate to 15% using a law never invoked by a US president before.
“Based on a thorough, detailed, and complete review of the ridiculous, poorly written, and extraordinarily anti-American decision on Tariffs issued yesterday … Trump raved. “During the next short number of months, the Trump Administration will determine and issue the new and legally permissible Tariffs, which will continue our extraordinarily successful process of Making America Great Again – GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE!!!
Apparently, the court peed in his Wheaties. There’s more to the ranting and raving, but it boils down to Donnie doesn’t like being told no. Donnie doesn’t like not getting his way. Someone needs to get him some ketchup so he’ll shut up for a few minutes. Oh, and take away his phone, which will mean more actual screaming and less Truth Social-ing. It might actually be worth it. He can’t make himself out to be more of an idiot to the world if he doesn’t have his phone. They’d better make sure he doesn’t have any spares, though.
Political analysts and experts called the plan illegal. Dem strategist Jon Cooper responded by saying that “Trump CANNOT legally impose a 15% global tariff because the US doesn’t meet the clear emergency economic conditions envisioned by Section 122.” “If Trump tries to invoke it, it would certainly face immediate legal challenges, economic pushback, and potential congressional scrutiny,” he then added.
Author James Surowiecki chimed in, “Just ridiculous. Trump raising his temporary tariffs on the entire world to 15%, while making it clear that the tariffs are being imposed not because of a balance-of-payments deficit (the only basis on which he can legally impose these tariffs) but for ‘retribution.'”
Yup. Retribution is definitely the right word. Donnie wants his toys back from the Supreme Court because they told him no, and he wants to go home. It seems he hasn’t made the world and the American people suffer enough already. No, the tariffs bring in all this money for the US, except they don’t. We get hit with the upcharges. And then *our* exports have to pay tariffs, so we lose on both sides. Why is it so hard for him to understand this? The American people will never see a penny of those tariffs. It just won’t happen. Period.
Rep. Don Beyer added, “Trump’s tariffs were so blatantly illegal that even his handpicked justices struck them down. Fresh off announcing new tariffs to jack up prices for the American people, he’s already raising these illegal taxes again. These tariffs will require a vote in Congress later this year, if not sooner. Or maybe we need to get him better meds. Something for anxiety might be good (ha). No, that would be better for us. When is something going to break through to him? He has enough money for 10 lifetimes. It’s not like he’s hurting for money. He thinks he’s all-powerful, but doesn’t realize that he’s less powerful by the day. Look at how much of a mess he’s made. Look at our allies stepping back. Look at our competitors walking in where we were. There are so many negative things happening that sometimes it’s hard to find the light.
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. I think he loves the tariffs so much because they are bringing in so much money! Reportedly, over 140 billion dollars. This is not making the US greater than ever, it’s making money that he can control greater than ever! Remember that he IS the US and constitution in HIS MIND.
