Sweet Jesus, Trump’s Big Lie is like trying to kill a level boss in Kingdom Hearts 3! You keep whacking and whacking away, and the goddamn thing keeps getting weaker and weaker, but it just won’t die! But eventually, perseverance carries the day, and it’s on to the next level.

But mark my words. The GOP’s Big Lie is going to turn out to be the ultimate ratfuck, and the ones who are going to get ratfucked are Republicans. The logic is simple and irrefutable.

By the doctrine of guilt slopping over, the entire state legislature of Arizona is now a laughing stock over the miserable farce of the Arizona Fraudit. A ragtag bunch of QAnon junkies spent months using ultraviolet light to look for bamboo fibers in ballots allegedly imported from China, and Italian satellites that managed to change Trump votes into Biden votes. And the fraudit has come up a cropper.

But here’s the thing. It was all a scam! It was always a fundraising scam. Trump knows full well that there was no widespread voter fraud, and so does the rest of the GOP. The whole thing was a way to keep the GOP base energized, and throwing money into Trump’s scam Leadership PAC. Which, due to obnoxiously loose FEC rules, Trump will siphon off for his own personal use.

But here’s the McGuffin. Trump’s entire scam was aimed at the vulnerable, loyal Trump base, the suckers who could be relied on to keep on sending in shekels. And that is a base that is shrinking on a daily basis.

But the problem for Trump and the GOP is that this is not how most normal people get their news, or inform their opinions. The vast majority of Americans in places like Arizona, Michigan, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania are sane human beings. They tend to get their news through normal, trusted media. And when they hear their Governor, or their Secretary of State, or their State Elections Board tell them that the election was fairly and equitably decided, they believe it! They don’t tend to pay attention to the maniacal ravings of various local GOP officials. Which means that the only ones the GOP is reaching are those already inclined to believe them.

Which is a self destructive message for the GOP! For one simple reason. The GOP is telling their sheeple that the 2020 election was rigged, and that their votes didn’t matter. But the GOP is currently out of power, and have nothing that they can do to change the situation. How do you somehow or other manage to motivate them to come out and vote, when you’ve already told the that their votes were stolen, and didn’t matter, and you can’t point to anything you’ve done to correct tie situation? These are largely people who aren’t going to pay close attention to local state voting laws, or how they affect them. How do you motivate them to come out and vote when their votes have already been stolen once, and there’s nothing to stop them from being stolen again? These are simple creatures.

Trump latched onto the concept of The Big Lie to prevent having to face the fact that he was a loser. But in doing so, he did so in such a way that it made it impossible for him to show his supporters that the problem had been corrected, and that there was a reason for them to come back out again and vote. Oh! What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.

  1. It’s really up to us ‘sane’ folks to prove our sanity by getting up off our collective asses & vote these wanna be fascists out of power. Until then count on the shitstorm to continue.

  2. Tea party in 2010 had a lazer focus on messing with the Black man who was president. They turned that rage into a huge turnover in the house. Biden has put money in pockets, something that people were pissed off at in the 2008 bailouts that went to banks not regular people.
The current environment for republicans is a mess. abbott in texas is going with hate immigrants, de pissantis the surge is fake, in other places something about trans people taking over. there sure is a lot of hate going around, but will there be a target to focus on to get enough voters to turn out for the rage fest? or will the soccer moms prevail and vote in normal people.

  3. They’re making a lot of laws that will make it extremely difficult to vote and somehow don’t seem to realize that their voters will be affected too. There may be a lot of conservative voters in the districts they’re not screwing with but they are overlooking the seniors and other voters who might vote for them in the districts they’re disenfranchising. As usual, for the GOP it’s all about immediate rewards and f*** the long haul.

    • Georgia was decided by just over 11,000 votes and the number prevented from voting will far outnumber the conservatives. Republicans are not doing this blind, they have data. Which makes them even more dangerous. I’m so tiered of the term “moderate Democrat”.

      • Tired of the term or not, the fact is we exist. And we vote. A lot. And always–even more now than ever–for the candidate with a D after their name. There was a time when moderate Democratic voters didn’t always turn out as we should’ve, but those times are done.
And I do believe a sustained, relentless and above all hopeful drive to maintain and increase Democratic voter turnout will ensure we prevail in 2022/2024. What worries me most about the GOP’s ramped-up disenfranchisement efforts isn’t sufficient reduction in Democratic votes or even rogue state legislatures, but the cumulative effect these efforts inevitably will have on American democracy in general. IMO Murph’s right about the GOP’s miscalculation–told over and over again their votes didn’t count, average Trump voters will become discouraged and apathetic–but the same is true for those weirdos known as “swing voters”, bewildered GOP refugees, ordinary folks already beyond exhausted with politics, even soccer moms, and if we’re not vigilant, very possibly the Democratic base itself.
Put it this way, we’ve got to keep hope alive across the nation. Fail to do that, and we will assuredly fail.

        • Everyone needs to understand their efforts include voter suppression AND creating a mechanism at the state level to OVERTURN the popular vote & declare a winner. Authoritarian to the core. Scared yet? No? We need to collectively wake the fuck up. The alternative we’ve seen many times. “Bring out your dead.” Monty Python

      • What is wrong with a moderate Democrat? What are you unnecessarily burdening the term with? What are your other options? Some form of extremism? Or do you have something else in mind? If your options are limited to only extreme v moderate, then moderate is the way to go.

  4. Murf, I’m actually impressed that you even know about the Kingdom Hearts series (fan since the 2000s). And trust me, you just described EVERY game’s level boss in that series, especially the late stage ones.

As to the rest, I truly wonder if they’ve managed to screw themselves out of a job.

  5. The thing is, Trump has failed at everything his entire life. But he always had someone to cover his ass and he’s too stupid to realize it. Eventually, there’s no daddy to make the problem go away (see Gaetz. Matthew) and he can’t face the truth that he is a serial loser.
