This is getting to be fascinating, and it may well be that it completes the demolition process from within.

It’s called Project 2025, and it’s the brainchild of the far-right think tank The Heritage Foundation. It’s a 900+ page instruction for dismantling the federal government in a second Trump term.

It was MSNBC that originally hitched on to this story on a national level, and when they wouldn’t let it go, and it started to go national, first CNN and then the national networks started digging into it and giving it national airtime.

And then the great clusterf*ck started. The thing is nothing more or less than a far-right wet dream to take the country back to a long gone, and in fact never existed far right White Wing Christian religious paradise. And as the most damaging chapters were disseminated and discussed, every grassroots activist out there started sounding the alarm. And the pushback began.

Traitor Tot started backpedaling as fast as a fat 78-year-old man could without doing a back plant. He denied even knowing what Project 2025 was, except for the parts that he thought was stupid. The campaign pushed back by saying that only Trump would be responsible for his second term agenda, not some far right think tank. Even political imbecile Beggar Vance had to parrot the line, even though he personally wrote the forward to a new book coming out from the Heritage Foundations President and Project 2025 architect.

Perhaps surprisingly, The Heritage Foundation was not taking this bullsh*t laying down, this was their baby, and Trump was their lap poodle, and he’d damn well Sit up and beg if they put him back in the White House. Senior Hertiage Foundation management started hitting the right-wing media, graphically showing connections to Trump and his campaign, and trying to put a more attractive shade of lipstick on their pig.

Enraged, Traitor Tot pushed back even harder. The Heritage Foundation President was forced to resign under incredible pressure from the Trump campaign, and also to delay the publication of his new book until after the election. But the damage was already done, and it only got worse.

It turns out that The Heritage Foundation had created 14 hours’ worth of instructional videos of how exactly to implement the different parts of the project, with the moderators identifying their previous positions in the Trump campaign and White House. The heroic muckrakers at Propublica.org got their hands on the videos and published the whole lot of them.

The Trump campaign responded hysterically, disavowing their own former employees, and insisting that Project 2025 was nothing more than a theoretical exercise. UNTIL more videos came out, with Heritage Foundation nabobs graphically explaining their close contacts with Trump and the campaign.

This is getting bloody, and it’s getting personal, and for good reason. The Heritage Foundation exists in order to influence actual GOP governing policy, and if Trump gets back in and blows them off, they’ll shrivel up and die. This is an existential battle for them. But at the same time, Project 2025 is a toxic cloud over the Trump campaign, and like dog sh*t on your shoe, the Trump campaign can’t seem to scrape it off.

And it’s killing Trump and the GOP. Longtime GOP pollster and focus group guru Frank Lunz has been doing his job. And from everything I’ve seen in the past, Lunz is an honest straight shooter. And his initial results are poison for Trump.

In his focus groups, portions of which he shared with MSNBC for their reporting, Lunz interviewed what looked like a roundtable of 12 GOP leaning undecided voters remotely in a conference link. The portion of men and women seemed about evenly split, a nice sample group. When Lunz asked them who they were leaning to in the upcoming election, Trump got a double barrel blast. The majority were leaning for Harris, but there was an interesting split in the reasoning;

  • Among men, the majority of whom had voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020, they were leaning towards Harris. When asked why, the majority said they were tired of Trump, but couldn’t vote for Biden. The injection of Harris into the race had them ready to give her a deep dive look
  • Among women the result was the same, but for a different reason. They had supported Trump in 2016 and 2020, but now, the majority of them said they couldn’t vote for Trump because they didn’t want their lives to revert to the days of the Olduvai Gorge if Trump got in and put Project 2025 into effect

This is a potential Doomsday Scenario for Trump. For once the media and the Democrats did their jobs right. The media, starting with MSNBC saw the potential in this story, got it between their teeth, and shook it like a chew toy. The Democrats didn’t just issue national squeals of outrage over the plan, they spread the outrage down to the local grassroots level, where it was amplified to anybody who would listen about the threat.

There is no out for Trump or the GOP writ large. Trump can’t shake the connections to the plan, simply because there are too many personal connections, both to him as well as his former staff, and current VP pick. And the Heritage Foundation can’t back down, their national political reputation, along with their street creds and possible political relevance are at stake. And the media and the Democrats will be there every step of the way, gleefully reporting on the deepening civil war. Now you know why I love it when they eat their young!

  1. The best advertising against voting R remains their own work.

Please carry on with your weird, strange, unpopular, and frankly bizarre policy descriptions, Republicans, and let the D side reap the bonanza.

Operation “Let Them Speak” continues it’s effective path.

      • “Let’s hear it for Trump and Vance, legends in their own minds, men to whom ’empathy’ is a four-letter word”: Bronx Cheers follow.

  2. They’re NOT going back to the Olduvai Gorge (LOL), and that may be the single most telling factor in this election. Women across the political spectrum absolutely loath trump.

  3. It’s always a good idea to alert the police that I plan to rob the bank, and publish it along with the specifics. Yeah…that’s a great idea. Oh wait, why not make a video…say…like 14 hours of videos just in case there are visual learners in the group. This group makes the characters in Monty Python’s Twit of the Year contest look like Rhodes scholars.

  4. It was their arrogance in not just printing lots of copies of the thing but distributing it as widely as they did. AND not being subtle about basically running the transition so the plan would already be being implemented by Inauguration day. Key people had been selected and before this all blew up earlier this summer THOSE people were at work screening subordinate managers!

Now the GOP outside the Heritage Foundation is learning the old lesson about not being able to stuff the shit back into the goose. This spring, even if they didn’t talk publicly about it most Republicans on the Hill knew all about it and were fine with the whole thing with some eager to help out. That’s how arrogant they all were. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if Heritage had already embedded people into a bunch of GOP legislators staffs to speed things up come the day after the election.

Now, with the cat out of the bag it’s ass covering time and as you say the folks over at Heritage (and their finanicial backers) are very unhappy campers. The honcho might have been “forced out” but in reality he only moved on. And UP. However I suspect some heads will roll. Those who were involved in the decision(s) to publish and so widely distribute the plan, and also be so open about getting staffed up for the transition are dead men/women walking. I’m certain there are those with real power who will see what a mistake it was to be so eager as to have the whole thing up and running (and at top speed) come Inauguration day. That the plan SHOULD have been closely held, and at most QUIET plans to run the transition to start getting people in place were the most that should have been done.

Ok, so they’d have had to wait four to six months to get the whole thing up to speed and destroying our country but they were just too fucking eager to get started right away. They gave away the element of surprise. Eisenhower went to extraordinary lengths to deceive the Germans about where the invasion of Europe would happen. He even maintined some element of surprise on when it would come. Rommel knew full well the moon and tides would need to be just right, and also both he and the rest of the German command all the way up to Hitler assumed “The Americans will wait for perfect conditions like they’ve done with every other major landing.” However, we stunned them by making the attack at Normandy which was much more favorable to the Germans to begin with. And never in their wildest dreams did they think with those freak storms we’d attack in the first week of June when at least the tides would be right.

But imagine if in the first couple of weeks prior Eisenhower had printed up lots of copies of the invasion plan and distributed them widely including to people who might decide to talk about them. Then in the first few days of June sent a radio message “in the clear” (where Germans could have easily intercepted it) specifying that bad weather or not, IF enough of a break in the weather happened the attack will be in the next few days.

That’s in effect what the architects of Project 2025 did. Made it easy for those who would fight back to know what they were up to. It took longer than it should for it to blow up in the news but now the bulk of Americans know about it. Even a lot of GOPer voters are queasy about it. Especially older ones.

They stuck their dicks out (I’ll bet virtually all of the key people were men) and are getting their cranks smashed with a hammer. Good. I hope it hurts like hell.

  5. Yeah marine…if Eisenhower did that then the survivors in Hitler’s empire would have had to learn German. Of course the marines would have still hit the beaches first as always.
