So today was the much-anticipated visit from Prime Minister Mark Carney with our excuse for a president. It seems it actually went surprisingly well. The only problem was that tRump refuses to give up his idea of Canada as the 51st state. Mark made it clear that Canada was NOT for sale, or annexation, or whatever Agent Orange had in mind. They are their *own* nation, and it will stay that way.
That didn’t go over well. tRump then pulled out the “you need us, we don’t need you” tired old line. Actually, we *do* need them, if only because of the electricity we get. I doubt we have the capacity to make steel the way they do. And cars? It’s perfectly likely that the cars they are sending back to us are put together in Canada, AND Mexico, AND the US. That used to be done a lot between our three neighboring countries. Now, not so much.
I would bet that Canada is already looking into alternate supply lines, if they haven’t done so already. President Blowhard already gave Mr. Carney a good idea of what was coming down the pike. Canada would be one of my places to move to, even with them having some of the same economic troubles we have. At least our leader there would be sane *and* have a brain he puts to good use. Prime Minister Carney has quite the job ahead of him. But the best I can figure, Canada is pulling together where we are fractured, and will likely remain fractured.
I’m happy this didn’t turn into a shouting match. I was surprised not to see JD and Rubio there. Maybe JD didn’t feel the same need to ambush him that he did for Zelenskyy. I’m still pissed about that bunch of b … crap. That was *absolutely* uncalled for and pretty blatant when you look at it. I could tell as soon as I saw JD do that. You don’t pull that sort of thing on the president of a COUNTRY. It took us weeks of work to try and get the minerals deal together again, and I think *we* came out on the short end of the stick. I was bummed at first to find out Ukraine had signed it til I got more information, and then, gales of laughter.
*ahem* Now, back to my original subjects. I believe Mark wasn’t concerned about the conversation at all. He was very clear about what he told tRump, and since the press was there, you can be sure he damn well knew what he was saying. He didn’t seem to be worried about what tRump was going to say in the slightest. Come to think of it, he’s been talking about Canada as the 51st state for months. Then he turns around and slaps Canada with some pretty steep tariffs. Either he was thinking he could wear down Canada, or he never had any intentions of actually *doing* so. He thinks it sounds good and makes him look good. Too bad Prime Minister Carney and Canada pulled together to say “hell, NO”. Busted El Presidente Imbécil and no real way to spin it to his advantage.
I’m actually pleased with how well it all came out. Mark was prepared, and considering how much the Confused Carrot has been in the news, it wouldn’t be at all difficult to see the way he is and be prepared for it. He was already going to tell tRump “not just no but HELL NO”. That’s all there really was to it. That’s all that needed to be said. Tariffs are less of a concern than the fact that Canada is, and will always be, itself (and not a part of the US). Congrats, Prime Minister Carney. Kick some ass.
*****And now, please be so kind as to read a very special request from our awesome boss******
Zoomers, we are always in need of donations. It’s been an especially rough April, and my own health has not been great these past few weeks, which just adds to the frustration. Anything you can spare will be immensely appreciated. And thank you to all who have donated generously already. Ursula

“I have talked to the owners of the property and they don’t want to sell.” had a helluva lot of power in the face of the putative buyer’s bluster. The “Fart of the Deal” in action
That was a great line and didn’t leave any room for misinterpretation. H0 H0 H0. *grin*
Vance sat there like a petulant child and Rubio looked ready to engage. Carney’s expressions were telling. he treated the orange one like any parent with a three year old. just let them babble on.
his post White House presser was illuminating.
Wait, they *were* there? I completely missed it. Well, as long as Vance kept his mouth shut, I’m happy. He needs to keep his mouth shut a lot more (see: Greenland visit). Heh, someone who reads body language said Mr. Carney was a bit annoyed that he couldn’t get a word in edgewise. I think that was actually a good thing because it showed tRump going downhill. I don’t know if it was a good or bad thing Rubio didn’t get to talk. If I remember correctly, there was a recent time when he *should* have kept his mouth shut. I believe his comment on something was really tone deaf (ignorant), but I read so much news I can’t remember specifically what it was, just that I was horrified. And tRumps comment on India/Pakistan, good gods.
I am so embarrassed that the Prime Minister had to sit and listen to the dementia that got worse and worse with every sentence that ugly pig spewed.
I felt so sorry for Carney.
I agree. Too bad that he didn’t start to make faces to show how inane tRump was. But oh, my goodness, the nonsense that comes out of the orange sphincter’s mouth. My goodness. I felt pretty bad, too. I have SO much admiration and respect for the Prime Minister. I’m glad he survived the press conference. Geez, our “president” made a fool out of himself.
OK, the PM “had to sit and listen to the dementia that got worse and worse with every sentence that ugly pig spewed”.
I’m sure the PMexpected worse, and that he would have been able to handle anything stronger the Mango Moron would have thrown at him…..
