Watch: Mother Who Saved Her Kids in Uvalde Tells of Police Inaction, Intimidation

Farm worker Angeli Gomez was hard at work in the fields outside Uvalde, Texas when she got a frantic Telephone call from her mother telling her that there was a shooting at her two sons’ elementary school. She jumped in her car and sped to the school at speeds up to 100 MPH by her account, desperate to be at the scene. You’ve probably heard the story.

What I had not heard, because police had called her and threatened to jam her up with her probation if she spoke to the press, was her first hand account of what happened that day…

SFGate

“ GĂłmez alleges that U.S. Marshals “immediately” handcuffed her to stop her from going inside. However, as soon as she was uncuffed, GĂłmez jumped a fence and ran toward the school alone. Once inside, GĂłmez said she could still hear gunshots while looking for her two boys, and by the time she found her second son’s class, she alleges that there were no officers inside the school.

“The gunshots were still active,” GĂłmez said. “They were not in there. There was no one in there. If anything, when I pulled up my car was closer to the school than where the snipers and everybody that was laying on the ground were.”

No wonder the cops didn’t want her speaking to the press. If her account is accurate, she drove 40 miles, argued with the cops, was cuffed and uncuffed, jumped the fence, and, after all that, was in the school before any police were.

Of course she might have missed them, crouched and making themselves as small as possible awaiting a Border Patrol Swat Team while the shooter murdered children and their teachers.

Fortunately for Angeli and her two boys they were in another classroom when she came to rescue them.

But I’m thinking if they hadn’t been, if they had been in the unlucky classroom where the murderer rampaged, this brave mama-bear would have torn the door from its hinges and been in there before the cops.

  1. The entire city government is afraid of the real story coming out; city hall has been closed locked up!) during business hours, the cops want to arrest people for telling their own stories, and the state…is not saying anything.
