Life imitates art. In the Godfather you hear Michael Corleone talking about his brother Fredo, saying, “He weak, and he’s stupid.” In the real world you hear Mary Trump talk about her mobster uncle and his son, her weak, stupid cousin.
At 1:25 Mary starts talking about cousin “Donny.”
It’s pretty sobering that Junior and Kimberly are smiling and dancing with Mark Meadows, while Trump Sr. watches the insurrection on TV. Of all of the Marie Antoinette-ian moments that day, that is the one that sticks out most in my mind. That, and when Junior and Kimberly got on a private plane and left. That reminded me of F. Scott Fitsgerald’s characters Tom and Daisy in The Great Gatsby.
“Tom and Daisy were careless people. They smashed things and creatures, and then retreated into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”
Rich assholes are the same, regardless of the generation.
Radio silence over on Don Jr.’s Twitter feed still.
In the book The Great Gatsby, Daisy runs a woman down and she walks scot free. The dead woman’s husband shoots Jay Gatsby instead, thinking he was driving the car. Are the Trumps going to walk scot free after their near fatal hit and run with democracy?

I think the Lord of the Rings also fits
Don John Gollum “We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious. They stole it from us. Sneaky little Bidenses. Wicked, tricksy, false!”
“Are the Trumps going to walk scot free after their near fatal hit and run with democracy?”
The answer is the same for every rich white person: disrupting their beautiful lives with actual jail time seems excessive. Let’s hope the January 6th Commission keeps up the good work, and that Garland AND Biden AND the majority of the voters in this country have their back!
