I could write a laundry list of what I can’t stand about Herschel Walker but the number one reason is that I can’t stand him twisting religion and making every evil and deranged action of his life be okay because it happened before he was born again, saw the light, whatever his particular cliche is to excuse being a moral degenerate and a repeat perpetrator of domestic violence.
And that’s all it is. He excuses behavior which is inexcusable and just blithely goes on down the road, and has himself conned that this is okay because he believes in God and his version of a loving God is someone who will let him get away with everything.
It’s pretty unbelievable that terrorizing his wife, both at gunpoint and with a knife is just no biggy to him but take a look. That is what he says.

I think what Jesus will actually say to him, if there is such a greeting at the Pearly Gates is “Depart from me, I knew ye not,” at least if my reading of scripture holds any water.
These faux Christians are horrific. They’ve taken a religion which has endured for over 2,000 years now and they’ve bastardized it to be a Get Out Of Jail Free card. If Walker’s response had been along the lines of, “I can’t tell you how horrible I feel about all that. I have apologized to my ex wife on my hands and knees and I have sought therapy so that I can become a sane and decent person and never hurt anyone like that again,” then I would look at this differently.
If his words were along those lines and his ex wife backed up that she was convinced of his sincerity and desire to walk a different way, and he had done everything he could to make amends to her for his egregious behavior, and his actions were real and substantial, not just talk, then I could see a bit of forgiveness. My heart would be moved in that direction — cautiously, because I’ve seen people lie about repentance, but at least I would begin to take him seriously. But this flippant, “Let he without sin cast the first stone.” Forget that. This guy is a loser.
Georgia, early voting starts October 17. Make sure you’re registered to vote and get out there and reelect Raphael Warnock and put this dummy in the rear view mirror where he belongs. Walker is a sick man. He belongs under observation, not on the floor of the Senate.

The whole idea of ‘born again’ meaning you can do whatever is NOT supported by anything Jesus is REPORTED to have taught. In the gospels written 70-100 YEARS after he lived borrowed from each other & other sources like the Q sayings, lost in antiquity. However, it’s recorded over & over that he only considered those WHO FOLLOW HIS COMMANDMENTS his disciples. He often intervened in what the law demanded, like stoning the adulterers, but said over & over…go and sin no more. The golden rule is in every religious tradition, including the second greatest commandment. He railed against hypocrisy especially religious hypocrisy & greed constantly. These folks are liars. Catholicism requires a confession and penance. The worse the sin, the stiffer the penance,,and it used requires asking forgiveness from the person harmed for some very serious like this. Even some right-wing evangelical churches require that and a public confession of guilt. He has done none of the above.I will.leave his judgment to.the god he claims to believe in, but suffice it to say I do not believe his repentance is real.
Not to be an ass Scott but very little in the xtians new testament is supported by Torah which are the laws of G_d. What is supported merely states that a human is considered a “good” one if they follow the seven Noachide laws. Evangs make much of the laws in Leviticus and Deuteronomy, for all they pick and choose which ones, but the seven Noachide laws are the only truly required laws any human need follow. Needless to say holding a blade to a spouse’s throat is not given a pass by any laws.
As for the deification of Jesus, big no-no.
There had been people called or claimed to be a messiah (Mosiach) before Jesus and after. I think that right there ought to be a red flag.

The story of his conversion is well known. Pharasees were THE keepers of the Torah. So you don’t believe one of your own? I don’t claim Torah to be the “only” truth. In fact, being trained as I am in Math, Physics, Engineering, etc., my “truth” is based on a physical universe rather than some la-la land stuff. I am what I was born true, but any use I make of Torah is as a guide-not absolutes. But xtianity is demonstrably wrong.
More to the point, any creator of the universe there might be probably called it a day after said creation and our universe will unfold according the the physical laws we see demonstrated every day of our lives. Should there have been a creator of the universe, it gave the necessary tools to the universe’s inhabitants so they could evolve into whatever they would to do what they will. The intelligent beings in our universe live and act with intelligence and and humans on this planet–not so much.

I see no contradiction since science has proven many things religion taught in mythology & tradition. We all DID evolve from the same parents in East Africa DNA has proven it. Everything is made of the same ‘stuff’, which is both in the teaching of Genesis, Hinduism & other traditions. The speed of light shows us the universe is more vast & complex than we can possibly know. Voice recordings & videotape of paranormal events prove there are mysteries that lie beyond physical death. No one knows what happens to us when we die. Truth. Read Stephen hawkings and we can’t be sure this is the only universe. Moral behavior is about the only thing in our control and I find Jesus’s teaching more moral than the behavior of the Jewish authorities, which were compromised by power and money and oppression, according to the recorded gospels. Easy to believe as power & money has created many religious hypocrites in our time from every political & religious tradition. I wasn’t there and neither were you, so to be so convinced Christianity is absolutely wrong is unprovable. How people act and what they claim to believe doesn’t mean a thing concerning the actual truth. All religious traditions come from antiquity with multitudes of issues, including oral traditions, agendas, lost manuscripts, etc. Judaism is as full of paranormal events as is the Christian tradition. Truth is elusive. It always has been and will remain so. Whatever other ‘messiahs’ existed, none are known or followed by a billion people as I type. I could argue that for people to go from hiding from certain brutal death as the disciples were reported to understandably have done, and honestly what YOU & I would have done, to then publicly step forward in a short period of time & be tortured to death isn’t what humans do over a lie. They claimed an unbelievable event. It would take an unbelievable event to sustain the events of the early church, which were all jews by the way, & is a compelling argument. However, it will remain a mystery as is how a murderer like Moses could perform miracles and create the Torah. We all are seekers. That’s a good thing. It’s those who think they are the mouthpiece of any idea of ‘God’ as if they KNOW the absolute truth are the problem. Not folks like you or I, or most that post here asking for justice. The Bible states God’s name isn’t know…it’s too holy. The jews made up a number of names. Taoism states the Tao that can be named is not the eternal Tao. Faith, in its most honest form is an acknowledgement of limited knowledge. Facts come through proof. They don’t require faith, although skepticism is still healthy since ‘science’ has often presented things as facts only to have to change to new facts, once more study is done. Jesus reportedly did teach we need to seek the truth. That’s a basic tenet of science. It’s those who deny the truth who are capable of the most evil. Either way moral behavior coming from any belief system is a good thing. I think we can agree on that. Now we have tens of millions of religious hypocrites & political hypocrites who aren’t interested in any kind of truth. That’s the core problem around the world. It leads to destruction as all religious traditions have taught. We all are inhabitants of a closed ecological system. As Pink Floyd sang…united we stand…divided we fall. Lots (way too many) of these Jeebus Freaks oh so conveniently “forget” about the after they’ve been “saved” part of their lives. Jesus spoke of faith through works/actions as the way to the kingdom of heaven. What that means is one spends the rest of their life doing their best to practice ALL of what Jesus taught. Stuff like helping others when and where you can, not worshiping and accumulating monetary wealth but spiritual wealth…stuff like that and more. If there is a God out there that is all-knowing as people of faith tell everyone is the case then God will be able to look into each person’s heart to see if they made a good faith effort to live a life that practiced what Jesus taught. It’s not easy and people, despite really trying sometimes fall short but if they truly try that will matter. Walker, like so many of these “I was saved so all is forgiven” assholes shows little evidence of trying to atone for those “pre-saving” sins much less those committed after, nor a meaningful attempt to live a life according to the teachings of the prophet they claim to worship.
But hey, this is Georgia which like so many other deep south states elevates football (especially COLLEGE football) to equal (and sometimes greater) status with Christianity. Hell, if an avowed Satan worshiper was kick-ass enough on the football field, especially if like Walker they won a Heisman and led their team to a national championship they too would be forgiven every sin Walker has committed and worse and people would vote for them. Sadly that would include some Democrats. But far MORE conservatives/Republicans would eagerly vote for a Republican football star! And, if it was a Democrat football star they’d simply not vote in that particular race.
