Garnell Whitfield, Jr. lost his beautiful 86 year old mother Ruth…
..to a white-supremacist gunman during the Tops Supermarket Shooting in Buffalo, N.Y. on May, 14th. Ruth was mercilessly gunned down, along with 9 of her African American neighbors, buying groceries after visiting her husband of 68 years in his Nursing Home.
Speaking before a large crowd gathered in Washington D.C. today for the “March for Our Lives”, Garnell not only conveyed his own palpable grief at the senseless murder of his mother, but also his simmering anger at the growing cancer in the body of America, at a sickness which will surely be our end if we do not cut it out…

Mr. Whitfield also spoke at The Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on gun violence last week…
…ending his remarks with a challenge to the assembled Senators, a challenge that will, unfortunately, likely go unmet:
“Is there nothing that you personally are willing to do to stop the cancer of white supremacy and the domestic terrorism it inspires?” he asked. “If there is nothing then, respectfully, senators … you should yield your positions of authority and influence to others that are willing to lead on this issue.”
The men you addressed that day, Garnell, have had years to address that very issue and have failed.
You, Mr. Whitfield, with your grief and anger, for your mother, for your people and for our nation, are one of the leaders we need in these dark times.
I hope you continue to speak out on this issue.
And I hope to see you one day sitting in the seat of one of the Senators you sought, but probably failed, to shame.
