Well, what do you know? tRump attacks a retail giant, the retail giant comes back at him. I don’t think I should have expected this. I figured they might nod and smile and suck it up. They didn’t. So yes, I didn’t expect this. Walmart is pretty damn big. But if *they* are saying price increases, you know damn well it’s due to tariffs, no matter how much the man WHO PAINTS HIS FACE ORANGE blusters and blathers. Seems he’s getting a little defensive, or maybe a lot, here. I’m guessing he just might really see how badly his wonderful tariffs are hurting the country. H*ll, they might even be affecting the family fortunes, and his gazillionaires. Who knows? It’s all well hidden. Or, he just might be doing the usual and only thinking about himself. How did I forget that he has less brain cells than an orange cat?
(I should explain orange cat brain cells. There is a joke among cat lovers that all orange cats share the same three brain cells. There is no idea where this originated, but it certainly feels right. For all of the non-cat folks out there, orange cats are renowned for being absolutely weird, unhinged little buggers, and that’s by cat standards.) And now, back to our regularly scheduled conversations.
Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, said President Donald Trump’s tariffs are “too high” and it will raise prices on some items as Trump’s global trade war increases the company’s costs.
“We will do our best to keep our prices as low as possible. But given the magnitude of the tariffs, even at the reduced levels announced this week, we aren’t able to absorb all the pressure given the reality of narrow retail margins,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said Thursday on an earnings call.
“The higher tariffs will result in higher prices,” he said.
Tariffs on China are raising costs on electronics and toys, McMillon said, and some food costs are going up from tariffs on Costa Rica, Peru and Colombia.
The price hikes will begin later this month.
Yowza, Ouch. Sounds to me like they have no choice in this anymore, even though they’re one of the biggest retailers in the US (and the world). This has *got* to be making Agent Orange nervous, which I expect was at least partly the reason for his attack.
Donald Trump‘s tantrum about Walmart upping its prices over his tariffs has prompted furious backlash from members of his own party.
“What a weak loser thing to do!” former GOP Congressman Joe Walsh of Illinois told MSNBC, describing the president as “that crybaby in the White House.” Fellow former Rep. Charlie Dent, a Republican from Pennsylvania, appeared on the same broadcast, further tearing into Trump for leading his supporters to believe the effects of tariffs would not hit consumers.
“This will absolutely be inflationary,” Dent said on Saturday’s broadcast. “Trump can go ahead and blame Walmart or any retailer for raising prices, but this is going to have a real impact.”
WHAM. There you have it laid out nicely and straightforward. El Presidente Imbécil is having a fit over something he can’t hide. Walmart isn’t backing down, no matter what he says. Here we have the pushback, and Trumpolini’s temper tantrum
“There are certain items, certain categories of merchandise that we’re dependent upon to import from other countries,” John David Rainey, the executive vice president and chief financial officer for Walmart, said on the call with analysts. “Prices of those things are likely going to go up. And that’s not good for consumers.”
“Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain,” he posted to Truth Social. “Between Walmart and China, they should, as is said, ‘EAT THE TARIFFS,’ and not charge valued customers ANYTHING. I’ll be watching, and so will your customers!!!”
See my eyes roll back in my head and come up lemons. Talk, talk, talk. Bluster and blather. It’s not working anymore, Trumplethinskin. It just isn’t. I kinda wish Amazon had stuck to its guns and shown the addition of tariff fees on the products. Let the consumer decide what to buy. Personally I think that would be great!
Walsh further slammed Trump for attempting to pass the buck on what he described as the inevitable consequences of the president’s new economic measures, warning that other businesses will likely to follow suit.
“You bully a private company that just talks about the impact of his tariffs? What a loser thing to do!” the former representative said. “Why doesn’t he just own his tariffs? But no, instead he goes after the private companies who are doing what we all knew they would have to do.”
You see, it’s going to affect *all* companies that have *any* imports, not just Walmart. If *Walmart* says it has to raise prices, what’s happening with other companies, especially the small ones? Going out of business since they can’t compete? That’s going to make the situation in the US worse, just because of the thoughtless actions of a narcissist, personality disordered child with power. And we still have the “Big, Beautiful, Bill” to look forward to. Wonderful. Thanks for sticking with me!

Zoomers, we are always in need of donations. It’s been an especially rough month, and my own health has not been great these past few weeks, which just adds to the frustration. Anything you can spare will be immensely appreciated. And thank you to all who have donated generously already. Ursula

If only some real journalist would go check the prices of the merch being sold in the Drumpf stores and businesses before the end of the month and then check back in a couple of months and see how much of that (mostly made in China) merch is still being sold at the same price.
Well, that might be too good of an example. The stock is still probably much the same as was there back at this time in 2015.
Poor little Dimwit Donny. Why can’t anyone understand he’s trying to protect the American banana, coffee, and avocado growers from unfair price dumping foreign competition. There’s also the question of how else can US manufacturers of TVs, lap-tops and cell phones be expected to compete?
Except, of course, that none of these exist.
The tariffs just add cost, and don’t protect anything.
and they don’t exist because their products would be more expensive than the imports.
and of course walmart wi raise their prices because like all companies they aren’t in business to break even or lose money.
A good citizen needs to do a deed.
The Walton family may be insanely wealthy, but like all billionaires, don’t like parting with it.
Just look at how they pay their employees.
