Is it another day ending in a y? Yes, well then it’s a day when more dirt will be dragged up about J.D. Vance. Evidently Team Trump was too busy to do oppo research on the vice presidential candidates and man, is it coming back to bite them in the butt. Vance is providing comedy gold on a daily basis. I’m sure the staffs of the late night talk shows rejoice, even as the Democrats, the political ads makers, and we humble bloggers do. Vance is some character. Daily Beast:
Sofia Nelson, a Yale Law School contemporary of Trump’s running mate, revealed how they corresponded by text and email for years until falling out over his support for a ban on gender-affirming medical treatment for minors.
The dossier of his emails and texts was revealed by the New York Times Saturday, with Nelson telling the paper the release was to highlight Vance’s shapeshifting from anti-Trump moderate Republican to MAGA culture warrior, accusing him of using his old position to amass money and his new one to amass power.
It is the latest example of a former friend of Vance releasing their correspondence and comes after his Yale roommate revealed the now-running mate once compared Trump to “Hitler.”[…]
And in 2016, when Vance published his Hillbilly Elegy, he sent Nelson an extract on email and said: “Hey Sofes, here’s an excerpt from my book. I send this to you not just to brag, but because I’m sure if you read it you’ll notice reference to ‘an extremely progressive lesbian.’ I recognize now that this may not accurately reflect how you think of yourself, and for that I am really sorry,” he wrote. “I hope you’re not offended, but if you are, I’m sorry! Love you, JD.”
Nelson wrote to Vance that Scalia was “homophobic” and Vance replied: “He’s become a very shrill old man. I used to really like him, and I used to believe all of his stuff about judicial minimalism was sincere. Now I see it as a political charade.”
In October 2014, after the police killing that summer of Michael Brown, an 18-year-old Black man in Ferguson, Missouri, caused widespread protests and violence, Vance wrote to Nelson: “I hate the police. Given the number of negative experiences I’ve had in the past few years, I can’t imagine what a Black guy goes through.”

I hate seeing the kids dragged in as props. That said, here we go again. And here’s a preview of coming attractions: A reporter asked Ron DeSantis the other day if J.D. Vance would have the advantage being either the vice president or the 2024 vice presidential nominee, when it came to the GOP presidential candidate in 2028. DeSantis did not reply.
I think we all know that Trump won’t leave office if he ever gets back in. The other alternative is DeSantis and Vance seeking the GOP nomination in 2028 in the event of a Trump defeat. Maybe that’s what will happen. Maybe this is what the GOP has collapsed down to, DeSantis and Vance. So it would appear.
The GOP has been sinking for decades.. all we can do it bury and hope something better sprouts.
If we don’t bury it, it will bury the nation.
Remember how Bush 43 like referring to top advisor Karl Rove as Turd Blossom? It was a good natured joke. I’ve called friends and been called by friends rather crass nicknames in my life. Again, all in good fun amongst good friends. What many don’t know is there actually IS a flower in Texas named the Turd Blossom! (I sh*t you not – pun intended) For a variety of reasons it’s actually quite rare to find one when out in a cow pasture but they’re real. Check it out for yourself here:

Maybe Bush hung the nickname on Rove because it’s rare to find one and let’s face it – Rove might have been uniquely bad but he was, at least back then a particularly rare evil political operative. Maybe when all this is over Vance should take his Yale Law degree and find some out of the way place in Texas and hang out a shingle. They don’t have Turb Blossoms in FL and I’d imagine he wouldn’t want to be anywhere near where Trump is. Texas is a bigass state where he can disappear into the oblivion he deserves.
