Gone are the days when the Sunday political shows were for nerds because they were fundamentally so dull. Color that era long past. Today what you’re about to see is Jake Tapper getting combative with J.D. Vance (file this under About Time and Long Overdue, both) and Vance is openly gaslighting Tapper and gaslighting us. It is something to listen to. And this is probably a preamble to what Vance will say in a few hours in New York City. The Trump campaign is getting very dark in its last days, but again, that was long predicted both here and on other outlets. Trump will pull out all the stops these next eight days. He believes that’s the path to victory. And it’s wayyyy too late for a centrist spin at this point, should he even attempt it. And MAGA would crucify him if he did.

Vance clearly is vying to be Trump’s heir apparent to MAGA. Maybe that will happen. Frankly, I doubt it. MAGA is a personality-centric cult. It is of Trump, by Trump and for Trump. I don’t see it enduring once Trump himself is off the scene. Trump will eventually be off the scene. He should be off the political scene within a few months, although not off the media scene.
My prediction basically is this:
- Trump loses by a substantial margin that the polls are not addressing at all;
- Trump kicks, screams, fusses and fumes about a *stollen election.* That might be good for a few months;
- Depending upon how the House and the Senate shake down in the election, we’ll see the wheels of government move forward, although how fast or how impeded is impossible to determine at this time;
- The criminal trials will go into high gear.
- That’s when things will get very interesting.
That’s the basic blueprint. I suppose it’s conceivable that the lunatic could get a second term, if the polls are accurate but again, I can’t parse through how that is possible with abortion on the line and what we see every day in front of our faces, Harris/Walz rallies packed and Trump rallies petering.
We’re in the final eight days — IF we’re lucky. I am praying for a decisive victory on Election Night. That’s step one to all this. What I hope and pray will not happen is a Gore/Bush 2000 scenario because God forbid that the election goes to this Supreme Court.
