This man is something else. Remember that picture of him raising his fist to the people of J6? But then he ran from the mob? Because it *was* a mob. Well, now he’s backpedaled on something he was originally against in the first place. The nerve of this man is astounding. He somehow doesn’t realize how it makes him appear. How can he not? From Alternet:

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) introduced a new bill Tuesday to repeal some of the Medicaid cuts in President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” despite having voted for the legislation earlier this month. “Under the recent reconciliation bill, Missouri will see an extra $1 billion for hospitals over the next four years. I want to see Medicaid reductions stopped and rural hospitals fully funded permanently,” he added.

This is the same person who voted yes on the Big Ugly Bill – the one that *cut* Medicaid and SNAP. He was vehemently against those cuts, but he voted yes? Wait, what? And now he’s trying to put some back (but only for Missouri)? What kind of hypocritical nonsense is this?

Social media users — including journalists and Democratic lawmakers — criticized Hawley’s move, questioning why he voted for the legislation in the first place when he knew it would cut Medicaid. Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) said: “A Republican Senator just introduced a bill to repeal parts of the reconciliation package he voted for two weeks ago—and, with zero shame, named it the Protect Medicaid and Rural Hospitals Act.” He continued: “Despite their lies, Republicans knew exactly what they were doing when they voted to slash $1 trillion from Medicaid. They knew it would strip coverage from millions and devastate hospitals, nursing homes, and community health centers. Sorry, @SenHawleyPress—the time to act was two weeks ago, when you rubber-stamped this cruelty into law.”

Quite a few people are questioning why he did this about-face. It might have been expected of him. His constituents obviously like the job he’s doing since he keeps getting re-elected. There’s no understanding why unless someone speaks with some of them. Even then, it might be challenging to understand why.

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) said in a post: “Trump and many House Republicans falsely claim the cuts to Medicaid they voted for in the Big Ugly Bill were not actually cuts to Medicaid. How do you know Trump and House Republicans are lying? Because GOP Sen Josh Hawley just introduced a bill to reverse the cuts to Medicaid.” /// Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.) said: “Josh Hawley set the house on fire and now wants to play firefighter.” /// Rep. Greg Casar (D-Texas) wrote on the social platform X: “First, Josh Hawley talked about not wanting to cut Medicaid. Then, when the billionaires needed his vote, he voted to cut Medicaid. Now that the Medicaid cuts are passed, he’s back to talking about not wanting to cut Medicaid. He’s full of s—.”

Josh Hawley continues to irk me. He’s just so full of it that it’s hard not to be. But irks is all it is. I won’t waste any more effort on him. He’s just an annoyance. Eventually, he may get voted out, but I’m not holding my breath. In the meantime, we need to continue our work to flip Congress.

Thanks for sticking with me!

We thank all of you who have donated. You’re keeping this blog on the internet, believe me. One of the battles we fight is the inconsistency of ad revenue because politics in this country is so polarized, and a lot of advertisers just seek to avoid the political. They’d rather advertise on food blogs and be safe, doughnuts before democracy. All we’re trying to do is stay in business because we believe the work is important. Thank you if you can assist. If we didn’t need it, we wouldn’t be asking. Ursula
