It’s Friday the 17th, not the 13th, but it’s been a Bad Luck Day for one Donald J. Trump. Not only did his expert witness who wasn’t an expert have his bones picked clean on the witness stand Friday morning, but then his motion for a mistrial was denied as “utterly without merit.” And Trump’s lawyers knew that it would be. But they decided to go through the ground work anyhow, because they will appeal whatever judgment the court reaches and all parties involved know that to be the case going out of the gate. That’s Trump’s MO, deny, delay, obfuscate, rinse and repeat.
A New York judge on Friday denied a request by Donald Trump and his co-defendants for a mistrial in the former president’s $250 million civil business fraud case.
Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron said the arguments for a mistrial were “utterly without merit” as he declined to sign the defendants’ bid for a motion to throw out the case.
The ruling came two days after attorneys for Trump Sr., Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, the Trump Organization and its top executives argued that the case had been undermined by political bias.
The defense lawyers claimed that Engoron and his principal law clerk have “tainted these proceedings” and that “only the grant of a mistrial can salvage what is left of the rule of law.”
Trial will resume on Monday.

The transcript of Judge Engoron’s denial is scathing. Trump’s dumpsters used an “expert witness” which is not allowed under law, cited legal limits of contributions by the law clerk that did not apply to her, and were generally jerks! It’s worth a read, only 6 pages and 3 of them are the meat.
