Many of Donald Trump’s supporters hang on every word he writes on Truth Social. He uses his platform to complain about how the big, bad world done him wrong. It’s one verbal shooting gallery for the former president, and the problem is that many of his supporters take his every single word seriously.
And before his hush-money trial began in New York, the MAGA faithful urged fellow supporters to flood the outside of the Manhattan courtroom to protest the case against him, Alternet reports. Days later, Trump was in one of his typical self-pitying moods and he complained on Truth Social that Judge Juan Merchant is a “highly conflicted’ overseer of a ‘kangaroo court.'”
On Thursday, a report by USA Today found that Trump’s “rhetoric is inspiring widespread calls for violence.”
This makes me so sad. Why do so many Trumpers think violence is the answer? It’s never an answer and events like the January 6, 2021 atrocity have caused great harm that is still being felt today. It’s the newest ugly scar in American history, one of many. And Trump doesn’t care if he causes more violent acts, or as we have seen from the violent attack on the Capitol, if it leads to the deaths of innocent people, as long as it accomplishes his goals.
And MAGA fans, according to the report, “swiftly replied to post with a blitz of attacks on Merchan,” and “the comments soon turned ugly.” Some over-the-top Trumpers “called for Merchan and other judges hearing cases against Trump to be killed.”
“Treason is a hangable offense,” wrote one Social media user. Another wrote “they should all be executed.”
Some of USA Today’s findings were shocking.
“in a review of commenters’ posts on three pro-Trump websites, including the former president’s own truth social platform, reuters documented more than 150 posts since march 1 that called for physical violence against the judges handling three of his highest-profile cases – two state judges in manhattan and one in Georgia overseeing a criminal case in which Trump is accused of illegally seeking to overturn the state’s 2020 election results.”
But, as USA Today also reports, the situation gets worse from there.
“THE GATEWAY PUNDIT, a website influential in the pro-trump community, is also a frequent venue for trump-inspired violent rhetoric. ‘these judges and lawyers should hang for perpetuating these fraud cases,’ a commenter wrote on april 16, suggesting the executions would be ‘an example for future generations of judges and lawyers.'”
While the uptick in violence connected to Trump supporters escalated after January 6, 2021, it began long before that, according to ABC News. The outlet identified at least 54 criminal cases that were inspired by Trump which resulted in violent acts, threats of violence or allegations of assault. And these cases were reported as early as May 2020, well before the capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
So what we have here is a scary situation that could truly become dangerous, so I hope the Biden administration is keeping this in mind. And this is why gag orders against Trump should be strictly enforced to the letter. I don’t understand why judges aren’t doing this, because Trump is stirring up his supporters just as he did on January 6, 2021.
I would say this is a true travesty of justice.
The only way to gag the orange menace is with duct tape, and unfortunately, that cannot be used on him…at this time.
I wonder if they will mute his mic at the debate coming up in June? He talked over Hillary and he tried to talk over Biden, who told him to shut up. But if he gets overbearing, as he always does, I hope they mute his mic.
