Karl Marx said “history repeats, first as tragedy, then as farce.” A MAGA rally is scheduled for Sunday evening in Madison Square Garden, which Stephen Colbert has already begun to satirize as Madison Square Garbage. First, a bit of history so that you can cue into the tragedy of the first historical event at that venue which is being referenced, before we address the impending farce coming tomorrow. On February 20, 1939 a “Pro American” rally was held by the Nazis. It featured one Fritz Julius Kuhn. Kuhn spoke to a crowd of some 20,000 rally goers and spoke of “taking the country back.” Within that same year, 1939, Kuhn was arrested for embezzlement, which goes to highlight a key point and that is: fascism and grifting go hand in glove.

This top clip is the same event, different angles and POV. The bottom clip is from the wonderful movie Judgement At Nuremberg.

You heard the Burt Lancaster character speak of what horrors became normalized. Take a look at this. Do you want this normalized?

Let’s see what kind of a crowd Trump gets tomorrow. I don’t see him getting anywhere near 20,000. And if anybody here knows why Trump is bothering to have this rally in New York City tomorrow night — other than for this reason, which is the opinion of social media — we are all ears. Trump has no chance to flip New York. Maybe he’ll figure that out tomorrow. And if the energy level he displayed in Pennsylvania tonight is any indication of what he’ll do tomorrow, we will reach the “farce” end of the dial very quickly.

Tomorrow could be a turning point in Trump world. If he flops in New York like he flopped at State College, Pennsylvania tonight, he may publicly wash out. Yes. we will probably see the neck and neck polls but if all the videos from here on out are bored MAGAs walking out of stadiums and venues because they’ve got better things to do, then how well and how effectively can Trump keep the pretense up?

There was a serious influx of right-wing polls in the past week and a half, for the express purpose of giving Trump the illusion of momentum and a sudden surger in the last weeks of the campaign. That totally fizzled. What do you think a massive flop in New York will do? Here’s the speakers list.

  • Sen. JD Vance
  • Speaker Mike Johnson
  • Rep. Elise Stefanik
  • Rep. Byron Donalds
  • Tulsi Gabbard

  1. Good lord! If each of those folks speaks only 5 minutes, that’s 2 hours and 25 minutes of speeches before Trump takes the stage — and of *course* most of them will go over their allotted time.

His supporters come to see Trump, not a lineup of people most of whose names they don’t even know. I wonder how many will walk out before they’re halfway through the list of speakers…

Another wasted day — and hopefully a bunch of disenchanted supporters who stays home on voting day.

    • Yup, Janet, I’ve been watching the Garden calendar since late Sept. when I first heard… it never showed up. From Trump’s own site, the “ticket” request page gave a 505 Page Error message until Oct. 20, but I received 2 confirmed virtual tickets (first come, first served) as he really thinks he’s gonna fill the 20K basketball/concert venue. AND, he doesn’t care if people use the tickets (I’m not and was never gonna), because he just wanted more people to beg money from.
On Friday, I finally received the text from Trump telling me which entrance to use and where to line up and what items to not bring (the 3rd item on the prohibited list was •Appliances; i.e. toasters 🤣)!
Trump also put out an invitation to wealthy people to join him on Sunday at the Garden for a fundraiser. Donations are from $5K to just under $1M. That would mean he also has a smaller venue in the building if any high-rollers wanna come and not mix with riffraff!
Is he gonna move from one to another? Let his surrogates move back and forth? The campaign has no possible way of knowing how many people with confirmed “tickets” are gonna show!
I have thought from the beginning that this whole thing could be a ruse! If there aren’t many people lined up outside, he could easily cancel and blame the Dems for it with any reason he wants to pick…threats of assassination, bomb scare, whatever!
I smell fiasco no matter what!

      • Re: toasters: All I can think of is Carol Kane meaning Bill Murray with one in Scrooged. I would pay to see that happen to Trump!

  2. What these MAGA morons are forgetting about 1939 is that at THIS point in the year (which, incidentally, was NOT a Presidential election year), Germany had invaded Poland and was officially at war (by almost two months) with both the UK and France. Also, when the American Nazis held their rally in Feb of 1939, Germany was less than a month away from taking over Czechoslovakia (well, the Slovak part declared its “independence”–as a German puppet state) and the Germans had yet to announce their “non-aggression pact” with the Soviet Union (still some 6 months away). Between February of 1939 and October of 1939, the American public–even many of those who’d thought favorably of the American Nazi movement–grew increasingly disgusted with German/Nazi actions, especially after the Nazi invasion of Poland. If the American Nazis had tried holding a rally at this time in 1939, they’d have been lucky to fill up a pool hall. (The real irony is that the German government was actively distancing itself from the German-American Bund, claiming that the Bund’s activities were harming German-American relations and forbidding the Bund from using any Nazi emblems or symbols while the Bund’s actions and rhetoric led leading news organizations to denounce the group as harmful to America.)
