If there has ever been a distress signal sent up as to why voting for Donald Trump this fall would be a disaster, this is assuredly it. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that “Donald Trump and Elon Musk have discussed a possible advisory role for the Tesla leader should the presumptive Republican nominee reclaim the White House, the latest sign that the once-frosty relationship between the two men has thawed.” Considering how Twitter has been handled since Musk took it over, do you really want to hand him control of parts of the federal government?

The role hasn’t been fully hammered out and might not happen, people familiar with the talks said, but the two men discussed ways to give Musk formal input and influence over policies related to border security and the economy, both issues on which Musk has grown more vocal.

Musk, along with the billionaire investor Nelson Peltz, has also briefed Trump on a plan they have developed to invest in a data-driven project to prevent voter fraud, according to some of the people. Peltz and Musk also told Trump of an influence campaign in elite circles that is already under way, in which Musk and his political allies host gatherings of powerful business leaders across the country to try to convince them not to support President Biden’s re-election campaign.

As recently as two years ago, Trump and Musk were publicly trading insults. But in recent months, the two men are developing a friendly rapport and talk on the phone several times a month as the election nears, the people familiar with their talks said.

The pair have held discussions on immigration, technology and science, including the U.S. Space Force. Their views and interests have grown more aligned, the people said, with Musk calling Trump directly on his cellphone.

Trump has told Musk, one of the world’s wealthiest people, he wants to find a way to get him more involved if he wins in November.

I’m sure Trump does. And I’m equally sure that if the two of them get in cahoots, that Musk will bankroll Trump, if he’s not already, and that Trump will give Musk anything he wants in return for cash, because Trump is strapped right now. Remember, just a few short weeks ago Trump was speaking to oil companies and telling them that for a billion dollars he would undo whatever Joe Biden had wrought. That very day people were saying that it ought to be illegal for a candidate to say such a thing publicly. And it gets worse.

Musk—who has a long history of flouting convention in the business world—has signaled he isn’t interested in simply writing a check to a super PAC, which can accept unlimited amounts of money from donors and is a popular way for the billionaire class to support candidates. Instead, he has elected to use his clout in elite business and technology circles to help defeat Biden by galvanizing the support of influential allies.

Musk is motivated by anxieties over the direction of the country, according to a person familiar with his thinking. Among other things, Musk has railed against what he calls the “woke mind virus,” a catchall for liberal policies including diversity, equity and inclusion programs that conservatives say create divisions.

You may recall the definitive shift of Musk’s policies in May 2022, when he tweeted he would vote Republican because Democrats had “become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them.” That was a turnaround. Musk had previously served on a few White House business advisory groups when Trump was in office but left almost immediately in 2017 after disagreeing with Trump’s decision to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate accord. He was thinking straight then, I can only speculate on what changed his mind in 2022. My opinion is that Musk sniffed the opportunity to pull a coup d’etat and if Trump gets near the White House again, that is exactly what will happen in short order. Trump’s lining up his generals for such a thing.

Musk and Trump are a very dangerous pair. You combine the desperation of Donald Trump with the vast wealth and equally vast recklessness of Elon Musk, put them in charge of the levers of power, and you have the end of democracy staring you in the face.

  1. Money talks. However musk can take a hike. He “likes” employees who sleep at the factory: sounds like many extreme capitalists who like slavery, in spirit if not in fact. Wonder if he is taking lessons in humanity from Saudi or other dictators? Just wondering… funny how social media is “destroyed”… when the masses can organize for protests like occupy Wall Street, Arab spring, George Floyd et al, and against tin pot dictators. Whereas Tweeter became a hub for fascists and other assorted nuts🤔🤔🤔

  2. The Muskrat fits my brother’s definition of the AWB – Afrikaaners Without Brains
Derek lives in SA in case anyone wonders

  3. Is musk even a citizen of the U.S.? He was born in south africa, is a trust fund baby. I have never heard/read that he is a U.S. citizen. He might be, I just don’t know. Don’t really care to even go to wiki quite frankly since I hate looking at the dumb s.o.b. almost as much as I hate looking at Von Shitz.
