Trump’s defeat isn’t the ONLY one that is critical for Democrats in 2020

2-4-6-8, who must we eliminate? Trumpster! Trumpster! Gooooooo HOME!

Don’t get me started, I can go on with that shit all day. But that is the overarching theme in 2020 for pretty much anybody who graduated Pre-K without a MAGA hat for a diploma. And there is empirical evidence to back that up. Obviously,in any election, the ultimate goal is to beat the other candidate. But normally, besting the other guy is for the purpose of enacting a particular agenda, or to change the direction of the country. But this year, tin poll after poll, the highest objective of the election on the Democratic side is to kick the Tangerine Troll’s ass out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Now, when it comes down to the personal reasons for wanting Trump out of office, well, basically you’re presented with the political version of the old saw “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways” as performed by Roger Rabbit. When it comes to legitimate reasons to send Traitor Tot packing, well, you could easily fill the Manhattan white pages, and have enough left over to get a head start on the Topeka volume.

Obviously, the removal of The $1 Store Caligula is paramount, but once you’ve done that, there is the necessity of starting to undo the staggering amount of damage that Trump has done to this country, both internally and internationally. And in order to take that industrial size sandblaster to the graffiti that His Lowness has has sprayed all over our national walls you’re going to have to make appointments and pass laws.

And in order to do that, it is absolutely essential that we send Yertl the McTurtle back to his slimy pond. Nothing else will suffice. I know, I know, you’re saying to yourself, but if we have a Democratic President, and a Democratic Hose, and especially if we ride another massive wave of disgust and national revulsion to a Democratic majority in the Senate, Yertl is effectively neutered. But to hold that point of view is to believe in a ipe dream that vorders on delusion.

I’m not even talking about any of the lame, twisted, diabolical shit that McConnell has pulled as the Senate Majority Leader, such as stonewalling the appointment of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, thereby saving the treasury an ungodly brewski bill every month. And I’m not talking about things like stifling any bills that the Burnt Umbra Baron won’t sign from even coming to the floor of the senate for a vote. Thise things would be mitigated by a Democratic Senate Leader. But memories are short in politics, and in the age of Trump they tend to be almost microscopic, so perhaps a brief refresher course is in order.

It was in his role as the Senate Minority Leader that McConnell so successfully stymied every Obama attempt at Obama making any cabinet or judicial appointments that it forced then Majority Leader Harry Reid to employ the nuclear option to allow appointments of cabinet members and non SCOTUS judges to be passed through the Senate with a bare 51 majority vote. This paved the way for such human colostomy bags as Betsy DeVos, Tom Price, Ryan Zinke and Ben Carson to start deconstructing sanity in the federal government. And it also gave McConnell the predicate to nuke the 60 vote majority for SCOTUS nominees, sticking us for a generation with the judicial sexual predator version of Trump himself, “Beer Bong” Brett Kavanaugh.

And lest you forget, it was in his role as Senate Minority Leader, on fucking inauguration night, January 20, 2017, that McConnell plotted his own little beer hall putsch to do everything in his power to ensure that Barack Obama was a one term President. And McConnell was more than willing to use political pressure, up to and including his control of cherished committee assignments, to ensure that his caucus follower their marching orders even when it was detrimental to their own best interests.

But, but, but! If we beat McConnell, some other GOP douche nozzle will just come along and replace him! except they won’t. Mitch McConnell spent his entire career not in pursuit of the presidency, but in the quest to become Senate Majority Leader, because there are too many restrictions on power in the presidency. There is a special place in hell for walking diaper stains like Mitch McConnell at the right hand of Satan. Other than Trump himself, there is no one in Washing more corrupted, twisted, or more profligate in their love for, and wielding of the power they have than McConnell. This is why McConnell is so sympatico with Trump they are opposite sides of the same filthy coin. Nobody who would rise up from the ranks to replace McConnell would have the same single mindedness or depravity for power. And certainly nobody who rose to replace him would hold either the respect of tenure, or the fear factor necessary to hold the caucus in the the way that McConnell does. I rest my case with the empty suit in the House that is Kevin McCarthy.

So ditching McConnell is almost as critical as dumping Trump. But the omens may auger well. McConnell’s popularity in his home state of Kentucky is  n abysmal 33%, with many poll responders saying that enough McConnell is enough. It is quite possible that McConnell is ripe for a primary challenge from the right, which even if he survives, would bloody him up plenty for the general election. The challenge facing the Democrats is to find an acceptable candidate with statewide name recognition, and funding and supporting them properly for this critical fight. My personal opinion is that if McConnell sees the tide in the polls of the GOP maintaining Senate control in 2020 ebbing on him, that he may retire, rather than face the embarrassment of losing, especially in a primary, or being subjected to the indignity of returning to Washington as the Minority Leader. But that would require him to voluntarily relinquish power, his precious, and the jury is still out on that one.

So, while it is necessary for the continuation of constitutional democracy as we know it to get The Cheeto Prophet out of the White House next year, it is a muted victory if we don’t Ditch McConnell. Failure to do that would doom the new President to at least 2 years of legislative futility. If McConnell is gone, the lack of abject fear in their GOP Senate leadership would make it much more likely that Senators would be free to vote in their wn best interest, instead of for a rigid, and often senseless ideology. Now you know the stakes.
