Talk about an audience and an entertainer out of tune with one another. The second version of the White House Correspondents Dinner went forth last night and it was a basic fiasco. In years past the sitting president would make light patter and happy people responded with laughter. This year the audience missed the punchline by a mile — so was it the comic’s fault? Or is this Stephen Miller’s attempt at humor?

Learn from the great Johnny Carson, Donald. When a joke flops, you pick up and carry on. You don’t dissect the joke for people. If you have to dissect it, then something really went wrong.
Trump hates being laughed at but he hates it worse when his attempts at wit are not met with adoration. Had this been a MAGA crowd, they would have laughed and applauded because they’re geared to do that no matter what he does or says.
This audience was semi comatose, whether because they remembered the bullets flying last time they attempted to sit down and break bread or because they were just plain bored, we will never know. But this years WHCD will not going down as one of its best in the history books.
