I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning. It smells like the GOP. Just a reminder, as Donald Trump has now included boilerplate language in all his speeches about how “We’re going to keep foreign Christian-hating communists, Marxists and socialists out of America,” he conveniently forgets that Melania’s daddy is a commie. Or at least was.

Oh, and you know how Trump always rails against the “criminals, poring over the southern border?” Guess what? Viktor Knavs is one of those, too. Or, at least a secret police data base reports him being charged criminally and is vague about how these matters were resolved, if in fact they were resolved. This was reported five years ago in the Daily Beast, but is being mentioned again because of Trump’s new avid anti-commie stance:

LJUBLJANA, Slovenia—One day not long ago Melania Trump’s biographer in her Slovenian homeland, politician and author Igor Omerza, was flipping through hundreds of thousands of names on “UDBA Net.” It’s an online database of the secret police archives of Communist Yugoslavia before the country came apart in the 1990s, which is when Slovenia won its independence. And among the IDs that appeared there, one name jumped out: Viktor Knavs, with the same birthday, parents, and hometown as the father of Melania Trump, who just became a naturalized American citizen.

The entry was cryptic, as such things are, but it noted “the person is registered in the criminal record” and cited articles 226 and 235 of the Yugoslav penal code. There is no indication of a charge, an investigation or a conviction, one way or the other.

Just FYI, article 226 involves the acquisition, sale or production of goods without the explicit permission of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. If convicted, one can go to prison for up to eight years. Article 235 involves tax evasion, which can carry a penalty of up to ten years.

At a time when some people are being denied permanent residence and citizenship in the United States because of their records in other countries, the case of Viktor Knavs is especially interesting.

David Leopold, an immigration attorney who formerly headed the American Immigration Lawyers Association, told The Daily Beast that a tax fraud conviction—if one exists against Knavs—could have kept Knavs from getting a green card, and could now potentially be grounds for revoking his citizenship.

In Slovenia, Knavs’ lawyers have said that despite the secret police record he was never convicted, charged, or even investigated for tax evasion, but they reportedly acknowledge he was investigated for smuggling.

Leopold said that for Knavs’ record to jeopardize his application, there would have to be evidence he committed a crime “of moral turpitude,” and tax crimes sometimes fit into this category.

Knavs’ immigration lawyer, Michael Wildes (sometimes called “the attorney to the stars”) told The Daily Beast. “Mr. Knavs’s application for U.S. citizenship was properly executed and adjudicated, consistent with the Immigration and Nationality Act.  His naturalization process was no different than anyone else seeking citizenship in this country.”

Right. Everybody getting naturalized in this country is the father-in-law of the sitting president of the United States, and they all can afford to hire the “Immigration Attorney To The Stars.” How silly of us not to know this.

And it will not surprise you that neither this star attorney, nor Stephanie Grisham, back before she decided to rehabilitate herself and go anti-Trump, would not answer specifics such as:

  1. What were the specific charges in Yugoslavia, if any?
  2. Were they resolved, and if so, how?
  3. Were they acknowledged in Knavs’ applications for permanent residence and citizenship?
  4. If not, why not?

Innocent people have nothing to hide. If there were no charges, or if they were minor, or if they were dropped, all an innocent man needs to do is provide the facts. Viktor Knavs is very possibly not an innocent man. Maybe the moral of the story is that Freud was right, and women end up marrying their father. At the very least, I think it’s safe to say that Melania is used to men that are less than bone honest in their business dealings and takes that in stride. Knavs’ profession was selling cars and car parts that he obtained in other countries, so he is literally a used-car salesman.

And it’s one more first for Donald Trump. He is the first former president and the first candidate for president, who has relatives who are — or were — card carrying commies. I wonder if the MAGAs, who are so interested in cultural and racial purity know about any of this? They hate commies, to hear them tell it.

And don’t forget, Melania’s parents live at Mar-a-Lago. Maybe Melania’s daddy read some of the classified documents in the boxes in that bathroom, while using it.

You didn’t think the classified documents case could get weirder, did you?

And here’s a glimpse into daddy Viktor’s personality.

In 2015, after Donald Trump announced his run for the presidency, Omerza and his colleague Urska (who did not want to be identified by her full name out of fears of retaliation) went to photograph the house of Melania Knavs Trump’s parents in Sevnica, street address Ribniki 21. It’s a tidy modern house on a quiet road in what could easily be a small town in neighboring Austria. Omerza and Urska did not realize that a man sitting by the wall and rubbing something with a towel was Viktor Knavs himself.

Omerza and Urska drove on along the street but in a few minutes a Mercedes S-class sedan closed in on them at high speed. “Knavs stopped his car in front of us, blocking the way,” Urska recalls, and she though, judging by the rage on his face, he “was going to become physical with us.”

“I was shocked,” she told The Daily Beast, “thinking, ‘What idiot would act like this?’”

Knavs is a big man (some have suggested his build resembles Donald Trump’s) and he couldn’t climb out of the car as fast as he seemed to want. “So we drove around him to avoid an altercation, and just kept driving ahead, but Viktor took off after us again, and raced after us on the highway for a few minutes until it looked like he gave up. It was like a cinematic car chase by the dangerous father-in-law of American President Donald Trump.”

Again, if Melania used to a personality like this, she’s probably thrilled that all Donald does is throw ketchup bottles. Everything in life is relative, right?

  1. Goebbels evil genius at work, i.e., ‘mirror accusations’. Accuse others of things they have not done, or intend to, but things you have done or plan to do. It works very well for the lazy benefactors of the brave citizens who died and sacrificed so they can be free to be evil, happy idiots. Millions out ‘eating, drinking, thinking they got it made’,(Dylan); millions now voting for a pampered fascist to piss on all our war veterans. Since the dead can’t speak, let me say go straight to Hell all you who embrace lies, fascism, and any other evil stupidity that undermines our Constitution. You don’t deserve the freedom others died to give us.

    • I had a dear friend who was a fighter pilot in WWII. Many guys he knew got killed, it goes without saying. I wish he was still here so I could ask him, “Is this what they died for? So a clown like Donald Trump could grift people like he does and pretend to be a leader?”

Maybe there’s an afterlife and he and I can discuss it there.

I’m guessing that “hatred” is more akin to “hate some commies more than others” since so many MAGAts just loves themselves some Vlad Putin–who was not just a “mere” Commie but a freakin’ member of the KGB.

    • I think “communist” or Marxist or socialist have now become buzz words for a society which is basically diverse. I’m just guessing here. I think that the criminal migrants coming over the border (in their fantasy) are what they’re calling communists. It boils down to racism and xenophobia and so the political name tags are being used for that. Again, from what I gather.
I honestly have no clue what Trump is talking about a significant part of the time.

Ursula, tRump doesn’t know what he’s talking about a significant part of the time! Word salad. The kind that’s stuck in a plastic bag on a grocery shelf turning brown faster than you can get the salad dressing.

        • No, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, but he has his handy dandy list of trigger words to work into any message. Currently those seem to be communist, fascist, socialist, marxist, weaponization, deep state, Biden (J or H), DOJ, Jack Smith, I’M INNOCENT!, etc ad nauseum. He says the same thing repeatedly, and we’re all tired of hearing from him. It’s why he can’t attract much of a crowd anymore at his pathetic ‘rallies’. Even the magas have heard it too many times.

  3. My dad was in the Philippines and other Islands over there. He was in a ship sitting off the coast of Japan when they dropped the bombs. He didn’t talk much about stuff but you got the message. That’s what’s lacking in this country. People need to stand up for what’s right. Not what some orange clown says is right. Trump has been a criminal his whole life. What Trump figured out early is if you are brazen enough with what you do they will let you do it because they don’t think you’d be crazy enough to do it in front of God and country.
