This would be very weird if anybody else said it, but this is part of the outrage-a-rama that has been life in the Trump era. This era of American politics will be remembered for a number of things: 1. Irrationality; 2. Loss of civility; 3. Polarized parties, like never before; 4. Social norms backsliding to an unhappier and crueler age. And the cruelty is the point. Make no mistake about that. Donald Trump represents the lowest common denominator in our culture, all the way from his propensity for junk food to his backwards attitudes towards women and POCs. Here’s his latest.

The kid might as well take him up on it, or her parents should. She can live off the interest and do quite well — unless of course Trump stiffs her like he stiffs everybody else. That’s assuming that he means the comment literally. Likely he only means it as a backhanded *compliment* and what he’s really saying is that he hates her hair, her skin color, her gender but he wants to look like the Good Massa and be magnanimous about it.
My personal take is that Trump is wondering what the kid is doing at his club. Whose kid is she? Does Mar-a-Lago even have Black members? I truly do not know. But I’m willing to bet that that is the interest of Massa as he stops the golf cart for a moment. He just wants to know who the hell she is and how she got there. Occam’s Razor.
But we should look on the bright side, right? At least he didn’t say, “I’ll be dating you in ten years.” That would traumatize a kid for life, the idea of being with an 88-year-old Trump — if he lives that long, which personally I doubt.
Although he could prove us wrong. Vance will probably be running the government and Trump will be off on the golf course. That’s my sense of things. And even when Trump is “working” it will be Executive Time in front of the TV in the dining room.
The world is laughing at us and it won’t be getting better any time soon. Trumpism is a political sickness and like most illness, you have to get worse and finally hit a bottom and then you can begin to get better — assuming you’re still alive at all. America’s going to take a long time to rebuild from all the damage that has been done the past ten years or so and who knows what kind of a mess we’ll be in in 2028?
We’re just going to have to live through it all and take it one day at a time. At this point we’re all anticipating the worst and well we should. But Trump should consider his situation carefully. Those around him know that he’s unhinged, even better than we do. He fancies himself a monarch but the fact of the matter is, that he’s a tool for forces that want to use him.
And use him they will. For as long as they can. Let’s put it this way: don’t drink any polonium tea, Donald, and do be careful of balconies. The people around you are the ones you have to watch out for.
