“I think I’m turning Japanese I think I’m turning Japanese, I really think so.” — 70’s song

The billionaire criminal defendant who is the standard bearer for the Republican party has raised $12 million since he got indicted, according to Fox News. Interesting commentary on the moral compass of this country, or perhaps I should say the lack thereof. Maybe they do want him to govern from prison, or at least run for office from there?

And I assume that Trump feels empowered by that sum, who wouldn’t, and so now he has gone back to his original stance that the 2020 election was stolen from him. And we made such progress, too. The night of his post-arraignment Mar-a-Lago address, Trump actually admitted he lost the election but now we’re back to square one. And with a twist.

The Dems are going Soviet. We won’t even talk about projection, we’ll just consider the source.

What I find intriguing is Trump’s attempt at revisionist history. When in American history have we had a criminal defendant run for president before? Anybody?

Ah yes, Eugene V. Debs. He was convicted of sedition in 1918 and was serving a sentence in 1920, when he was on the ballot as the Socialist Party candidate. He received 915,000 votes, so yes, it has been done. And it was about a hundred years ago, so maybe that particular brand of madness is ready to repeat. History runs in cycles, this we have seen.

And if the world gets crazy enough and the No Labels party runs a spoiler campaign and bleeds votes away from Joe Biden, we could have Trump back in the White House and that would effectively end democracy as we know it. Please, if you have not read the piece I just linked to, do so. You need to know about this No Labels lunacy.

Please listen to what Rick Wilson has to say. This is a real and present danger, make no mistake. This could topple our government right here and now.

Always remember about Donald Trump: He is the useful idiot, the front man for the forces of evil. Of himself he can do very little. But when empowered by the GOP, he is unfortunately a force to be reckoned with.

Democracy could fall like a jenga tower in 2024. We must be vigilant.

  1. All of the so-called middle of the road organizations are actually right wing leaning at best, fascist at worst. Third Way has destroyed the Democratic Party’s standing with the working class, just as their predecessor, the DLC abandoned the middle class. Meanwhile No Labels is as dishonest as the day is long, and is indeed a front organization for the oligarchs to depress Biden’s vote count.

    • I don’t see Manchin drawing many Democrats. I can see why they have the belief that he wouldn’t draw mostly Trump voters that don’t like Trump. It is magical thinking. Democrats hate Manchin and Trump. Democrats can tout their actual progress and their bills that are blocked by Republicans, all facts. Then they attack Republicans with real facts and bury them. They should also use facts to make the Republican party synonymous with fascist insurrectionists.

  2. The people who still support Donald Trump are beyond reach. Even if they weren’t, their innate sense of victimhood should have no bearing on any legal charges brought before Trump. If we decide to prosecute based on whose feelings get hurt, what, then, for our system of justice? Trump is entitled to the presumption of innocence in a court of law. He is not entitled to the presumption of innocence in the court of public opinion. Trump and Republican extremists often say they want to take back their country. Maybe we just have.

  3. I’m not worried about trump. He’s finished. 82 million of us fired him, and by now more and more people have turned on him. He’s unelectable. We outnumbered the Nazis by 7 million in 2020, embarrassed the Nazis in the midterms of 2022, by this point we outnumber them by at least 11 million. Good always wins over evil.

  4. Problem with no labels or some other group is that they with help of some msm outfits will muddy the waters in some key states. Maybe just enough. And some state legislatures may … … yeah, we don’t know. And not confident with this current SCOTUS.

  5. Seems to me that third- and even fourth- or fifth-party democracies can work, if combined with the kind of tiered rank voting that Alaska employs. Isn’t America supposed to be an ongoing experiment in freedom and democracy? That may be a lot of type, but still, we’re seemingly at an inflection moment.
