A new NDA is under consideration. Trump wants it to be all-encompassing. He wants to stop even the tiniest peep so that they can’t talk to people outside about their jobs, about what Trump is doing. It’s a blatant attempt to make people quiet. What would it do to people who need to talk? Is he going to choke Inspectors General, too? He’s trying to terrorize everyone in the federal government into being afraid to talk at all. Imagine trying to do your job under this. They already have an NDA in place. Why does one all-encompassing new one even need to be put in place? My gratitude to Raw Story:
The Trump administration is moving to force every federal employee in the country to sign a nondisclosure agreement — a sweeping crackdown on leaks that critics say could silence government workers for good. But for Donald Trump, silencing people with NDAs is nothing new. It’s a tactic Trump has deployed for years. During his first term, he became the first president to require private sector-style NDAs from White House staff — senior aides and interns alike. Legal scholars at Cornell Law School called those agreements likely unconstitutional.
Yea no. If he’s that paranoid, it means we really are out to get him. Putting fear into all government workers is one nasty thing to do. He wants to give them a life of fear. Imagine being unable to sleep next to your partner, for fear you might say something in your sleep. Imagine how hushed the offices will be because people are afraid to do anything beyond good morning or good afternoon. Yes, that’s extreme, but Trump is that extreme. And it would be that extreme.
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management posted a draft notice Tuesday that would bar federal workers from sharing a wide array of “non-public, confidential, or proprietary information” or “any sensitive, pre-decisional or deliberative material” not already available to the public. The rule goes well beyond typical classified and unclassified designations.
Exactly. He is trying to stifle everyone to avoid any “bad” news about him getting out. It’s a typical example of a bully. He is trying to force a change so he can protect himself from something that *might* happen in the future, that *might* mean he’s called on the carpet for something that *might* take him down. It’s not like they can talk about their jobs outside the office, only in vague terms, because they‘ve already signed an NDA. A second one is overkill. It’s purely for Trump’s paranoia.
Legal experts have long warned that the government cannot impose NDAs on federal employees for unclassified information, no matter how sensitive or embarrassing. Critics warn that the sweeping language in the new proposal could be weaponized to suppress whistleblowers and shield government misconduct from public scrutiny.
My goodness gracious and golly gee, now why would that come into play? Weaponized because of Trump’s anxiety and distrust? Nah, that couldn’t possibly happen. But it will. He will answer to us in one way or another, because his overblown tactics cannot silence us. We will find ways to speak out. We will find ways to take him down.
See you soon!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
