This sudden conflagration with CNN isn’t surprising to see because Donald Trump always alleges bias in everything, whether it’s a court proceeding or a debate. It is disappointing, however, that he seeks to poison the well so close to the Thursday debate between himself and Joe Biden — although there may be a good reason for that. Keep reading and it will all make sense to you. It started out earlier today when Trump’s spokesperson had her mic cut during a CNN interview because she would not stop criticizing the network. Now she’s doubling down and asking for an apology. And this is what Trump is posting on Truth Social and cross-posting to Twitter.

I don’t think this tape speaks to slander or bias so much as it does to simple fact checking. But you see the posture that Team Trump is taking. And it is the exact same posture that Team Trump always takes.

In short, it doesn’t matter who it is. They’re not sufficiently deferential to Trump — except maybe Lindell TV or RSBN would be, but they’re not getting the debate gig, CNN is. Here’s what happened on CNN earlier today between Kasie Hunt and Karoline Leavitt. Politico:

Hunt cut Karoline Leavitt’s mic after an interview with the national press secretary on “This Morning” about Trump’s prep for Thursday’s debate spiraled into an argument.

Leavitt called Bash and Tapper “biased” and said Trump is “knowingly going into a hostile environment.”

Hunt defended her colleagues, calling them “professionals” who have interviewed candidates “from all sides of the aisle,” before asking Leavitt what she expects of Biden’s performance at the debate.

“Well first of all, it takes someone five minutes to Google ‘Jake Tapper, Donald Trump’ to see that Jake Tapper has —,” Leavitt said.

“Ma’am, we’re going to stop this interview if you’re going to keep attacking my colleagues,” Hunt replied as the two spoke over each other.

“I would like to talk about Joe Biden and Donald Trump, who you work for,” the CNN anchor continued as Leavitt interrupted. “If you’re here to speak on his behalf, I will have this conversation.”

“I am stating facts that your colleagues have stated in the past. Now —,” Leavitt responded.

“Ok, I’m sorry guys, we’re going to come back out to the panel. Karoline, thank you very much for your time, you are welcome to come back at any point,” Hunt said as Leavitt’s microphone muted and her video feed disappeared from view.

“She is welcome to come back and speak about Donald Trump, and Donald Trump will have equal time to Joe Biden when they both join us … later this week in Atlanta for this debate. Our thanks to Karoline,” Hunt added.

If you want to hear Leavitt’s demand for an apology hit this link and scroll down the page to the video of The Benny Show. It’s very clear that the MAGA stance is to *protect* Donald Trump from going into enemy territory. Now where the logica falls apart is that Trump’s responses will be coming out of his own mouth and not controlled by either the other debater or the the moderators. And that’s where things are going to get dicey.

Now my theory is that Trump may be looking to drop out of the debate at the last minute and this will be his excuse, that it was not going to be fair, so why bother? If that’s the case, then expect all this noise to get even louder over the next couple of days and then expect Trump to announce on Thursday morning that he’s not going to take any more abuse and he won’t be showing up in Atlanta.

I sincerely believe that there’s at least a 50/50 chance of that. I think that what we’re looking at is pure performative theater, done for the purpose of making it okay for Trump to drop out of the debate before he makes a complete ass out of himself.

Bear in mind, he refused to debate during the primaries for exactly this reason. He hasn’t debated since 2020. I, for one, will be more surprised on Thursday if he actually shows up than if he doesn’t.

  1. Of course he won’t. He’s completely incapable of “debating” and he knows it. His handlers and enablers know it and it doesn’t matter. EVERYONE needs to harp on the fact he isn’t mentally capable of debating to push him into it. Otherwise, it’s all mental masturbation.

    • Maybe you’re right and we can do reverse psychology. If he hears, “Trump can’t, Trump can’t” then maybe he’ll surprise us. But I honestly don’t think he can take 90 minutes (or even nine minutes) of an honest question/answer session without his MAGA cheerleaders present.

    • So have I, Scott. And I believe this is the premable to the announcement that he’s not showing up. It will be something like, “If I could get a fair debate I would be happy to come but these people say I’m a Nazi, so there.” I think the only question now is whether he drops out tomorrow or Wednesday or the day of the debate.

  2. He a coward. He only talks tough when surrounded by sycophants. If I were one of his advisors, I wouldn’t let him show the nation just what kind of shape he’s in.

  3. And he’ll blame it on his handlers. They’ll ramp up the rhetoric for the next few days. Then early Thursday, he’ll state how badly he wanted to debate, but that his team simply wouldn’t let him fo it. “No, Donald, save yourself!” *feigned exasperation* This would be hilarious if he didn’t have a legit chance of being re-elected.
