He certainly did not intend this, but he made a statement that, if you look at it for a very few seconds, you realize it does not work in that setting. Maybe he thinks he’s trolling because a great deal of the article is him whining about the elections. He only trolled himself, and this will be amusing for a couple of days, at least! If you do not see it the same way, you may skip merrily along to the next article. No offense taken.
He’s back on the filibuster kick again. He wants it gone. Democrats and Republicans don’t want it gone. That should be “’nuff said”, but He. Just. Won’t. Let. Go. There has to be a good reason for it, or it would have been tossed a long time ago. So, finally thought to look it up. It is for: Blocking Legislation, Gaining Leverage, and Protecting the Minority.
Those are pretty damn good reasons to keep it in place. Otherwise, we could have something that would go back and forth from Wabbit Season to Duck Season, where the majority party could put something in place, and when the majority party changes, they rip it apart, and you get the idea. It generally keeps things balanced so the majority and minority have to work together to get something done. However, it’s only for the Senate. Considering how many members the House has, it would be a lot more difficult to enact something similar. Ready for some whining?

President Donald Trump pleaded with GOP senators Monday to eliminate a longstanding legislative rule, warning that if they refused, he would become “the last Republican president” ever elected to office. “If Senate Republicans don’t TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, the Dumocrats will, and I will be, despite how well our Party is doing, the last Republican President!” Trump warned, writing on his social media platform Truth Social, before going on to cite inaccurate Republican voter demographic data for Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.
Wait for it:
“The Dumocrats will vote in Puerto Rico (4% Republican Vote), and Washington, D.C. (3% Republican Vote), pick up 4 Senators, 8 Congressmen/women, tremendous numbers of Popular and Electoral College Votes and, importantly, control the Voting Mechanisms and Systems, both Legal and otherwise, throughout the United States.”
Gee, wasn’t that called Stop the Steal? Didn’t “it” generate a riot? Voting machines and systems, both legal and otherwise. That sounds exactly like 2020 when Trump proved himself to be *quite* the sore loser. He’s regressing backward from a three-year-old to a two-year-old at this point. No one but Trump (and the rioters, some of whom are back in jail with worse offenses) wants to see that again.
He alone is a really good reason for keeping the filibuster, so he can’t somehow shove Republicans into doing things for him. We could bet that the Republicans who are leaving Congress are going to be happy with their peace and quiet for a while, and they can turn *off* the news if they want to. Trump is going to have to work a lot harder if there are a bunch of new people in Congress.
The question is as to whether or not the current House and Senate heads will swear them in because that is “ish” a way to keep Republicans in power. Can’t really see that happening, because you can bet on a lot of Republicans being perfectly happy to be in the minority party. Trump has been hard on them these two years. Mike Johnson could be that petty. Remember what he did to the lovely lady who won a special election? She was going to be the 218th name signed on the Epstein files list to bring it to a full vote. Mikey Johnson dragged his feet for *weeks*.
Well, we’ll see what happens with the midterm elections. It’s certainly going to be interesting with Dems leading in the polls for ruby red states. We won’t talk about Paxton. At least not today. He’s making so many mistakes it’s *cough* fun to write about him. Let’s see what the rest of the week holds for us. Here’s hoping it’s this entertaining!
