Or he doesn’t; that’s not our problem. Trump apparently never learns from previous mistakes (see: Reflecting Pool). This time, he made a decision that actually hurts him. Since he’s prone to blurting things out, he obviously didn’t think this through, because now he’s in pain (see: lavish welcome for Xi with no coverage). Again, not our problem, and it’s actually somewhat entertaining.
Remember, he kicked out CNN, MS NOW, and Politico? And then the other networks pulled back in solidarity, including some of Fox Network? Trump just noticed a few days ago. He threw them out more than a week ago. For a guy who’s so obsessed with coverage, he didn’t seem to notice at all what he had done. That’s still strange for him. We joke about him slipping into Alzheimer’s or straight into dementia, but could it actually be happening?
Yes, he has the memory of a sieve, but it took so long for him to notice. Nearly a week. And other networks pulled back. It would (should) have had a drastically small press pool. That’s noticeable. But he noticed it in delay mode. That doesn’t parse. Not at all. We do know they were legally allowed back in, but he’s still pissed about no coverage. He held a ribbon-cutting for the new helipad, and no one could hear him. And he didn’t notice the lack of coverage then? He’s losing it.

President Donald Trump’s latest outburst at the press gave away more than he meant to, according to The New Republic’s Greg Sargent: “In angrily pretending the news organizations boycotted the event to deny him attention during a successful moment, all Trump really demonstrated is that he badly needs their attention,” he wrote. He argued that the media’s joint response “has located a real weak spot—and nailed it with a direct hit.”
Trump bathes himself in press coverage. He thinks he’s the almighty Trump and everyone should adore him. That’s not what we think about at all. We are mean and enjoying it. We don’t care about his “Look at this! Didn’t I do well?” unless it affects us directly. Trump always gives us things that are boring or stupid instead of interesting. The only reason to listen to him is to find out what horrible thing he’s going to inflict on the country next. (See: tariffs and see: ICE via DHS with 10,000 untrained agents, and we know how well *that* worked out).
It seems he is pushing through approval as fast as possible for the (military) triumphal arch because that might be something that could be done before he has to leave so he can crow about it. We just want to know how fast it will come down. It’s being built with our tax dollars, but just like the damn ballroom, it’s an abomination ruining something put in place to honor our military members who have passed on, as well as two presidents. And who knows if the work will be fast and cut corners (REALLY bad idea), or done correctly.
But yes. Trump finally figured out he needs the press and ought not to throw people out. It backfired in a major fashion and will do so again if he tosses someone else out. Damn, the man is erratic. He’s almost unpredictable these days except for a very few things. He obsesses over weird things. And has he checked the polls lately? He’s not doing well on those, either. Trump is possibly, probably, learning about consequences … until the next time. Oh, joy.
