The Washington Post published the results of an extensive investigationĀ of the Capitol riot Sunday, which they describe as “based on interviews with more than 230 people and thousands of pages of court documents and internal law enforcement reports, along with hundreds of videos, photographs and audio recordings.” The Post provided Donald Trump a list of 37 findings reached in the course of its investigation. In turn, Trump spokesman Taylor Budowich provided the Post with a lengthy written response “that included a series of unrelated, inflammatory claims” that the Post declines to publish in full, but they did print this.

In response to the investigationā€™s findings, Budowich said that the former president ā€œgreatly objectedā€ to all of them. He disputed The Postā€™s investigation as ā€œfake newsā€ and falsely cast people who entered the Capitol on Jan. 6 as ā€œagitators not associated with President Trump.ā€ The statement repeated Trumpā€™sĀ false claimĀ that the 2020 election was rigged.

The statement also said:

ā€œThe mediaā€™s obsession with the January 6th protest is a blatant attempt to overshadow a simple fact: there is no greater threat to America than leftist journalists and the Fake News, which has avoided a careful examination of the fraudulent 2020 election. The media, just like the Democrats, do not want to see secure and honest elections. Instead of reporting the facts, outlets like the Washington Post sow division, hate, and lies, like it is doing with this story.ā€

ā€œThe media has failed to do its job, including truly exposing Silicon Valley for its role in illegally rigging the election with hundreds of millions of dollars in dark money–which is probably a gross underestimate. America is furious at the results of November 3rd and deserve answers. They deserve to protest and demand the truth from their Representatives. However, since the media isnā€™t asking the questions, itā€™s being left up to the people to seek the truth.ā€

You can interpret the last comment any way you want, but “left up to the people” sounds like more insurrection talk.

There will be analysis of the Washington Post investigation here and with many other outlets. Expect this story to lead at least one news cycle, possibly two. One thing you see right off the bat — Trumpty Dumpty’s buttons got pushed, bigly. He’s on the war path now.

  1. Pot calling the kettle black. My word what a A) asshole, B) lying hypocrite, and C) extraordinarily moronic person. I do not think this nation will recover from the embarrassment of having had this fool for a president. Every day he exists on earth is another punch in the gut to our country.

  2. Perhaps media folk should remind a certain Mr Trump of words that he used back in 2016 when he was “sure” that he wouldn’t be elected through a fair and honest election. I seem to recall he made vague calls (some might say “threats”) for his supporters to take up arms in January of 2017 if he weren’t duly elected in November 2016.
