It’s starting to make sense. Greenland, Panama and of course the issue of Canada becoming the 51st U.S. State. Trump might not have mentioned the first two much lately but he’s still tossing out Canada becoming part of the U.S. even as they make it clear “No effing way.” From where I sit Trump was doing the classic magician’s trick of misdirection, getting everyone to look at the wrong thing while the Evil Black Magic was taking place. As Trump might think he’s in an equal partnership with Putin but he’s a fool. He’s effectively turned the United States into the 9th Federal District (the North American District?) of the Russian Federation.
We’ve also known Trump’s long been Putin’s puppet and we saw it clear as day during the first Trump administration. I think if forced to Trump would actually smash his hand with a hammer (or the Speaker’s Gavel tomorrow night) rather than voice an open criticism of his ‘pal’ (so he thinks) and Puppet Master. We all knew things were going to be a lot more difficult for Ukraine with Trump back in office. NATO (and other alliances too) but we didn’t know how quickly Trump would move to blow up the world order that’s existed for over seven decades.
Now we do. There was the extraordinary live, televised diplomatic mugging of an ally when Vance led the charge to trash Ukraine and its President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. To his credit the Ukrainian President held his ground. I don’t think Trump expected what would follow. By evening our allies were publicly taking sides and ALL were solidly backing Ukraine and critical of Russia for starting the war. I have very little but I’d bet it all on the notion that Trump truly believed he’d fracture the NATO alliance and the EU. Instead he’s galvanized them. Within hours Newsweek published an article with plenty of initial reaction. Again, if Trump thought one of our NATO allies other than Orban would take his side he was badly mistaken.
Here’s what’s important though. While Republicans here in the U.S. scrambled to back Trump and his lies our allies only turned up the volume on supporting Ukraine. Zelenskyy was feted in London on his way back home. Trumpty’s coveted second State Visit to the UK seems to be on hold, especially since King Charles took time to meet with Zelenskyy! One might argue the “Special Relationship” is not going to be “Special” at all moving forward. A meeting was held on Sunday and the upshot is that Europe is going to try and figure out how to take up the slack with Trump intending to cut off U.S. assistance to Ukraine. It’s worth noting that changes coming will affect more than the war. Given Friday alone a cutting back in intelligence sharing was going to happen. And then Pete Hegseth poured gasoline on the whole thing.
Over the weekend we learned that even before the Oval Office mugging our totally unqualifed Secretary of Defense announced the U.S. would cease “offensive” cybyer-security/operations directed at Russia. Granted, DOD isn’t the only agency that carries out such operations but it’s hard for me to imagine Hegseth not having discussed this with DNI and Russian asset Tulsi Gabbard. Patel at the FBI of course will be on board with this new policy and at DHS Kristi Noem will take a “whatever” attitude. With so much of our cyber command there she’s probably already spoken to Hegseth and others asking how much office space they’ll need for their people who will come over to take control of that function! You can read more about this travesty in this article from the Associated Press.
The bottom line is without specifically saying the words – ‘Russia is our main ally now’ he’s effectively told the world that’s the case. Remember, in his first term Trump spent a lot of effort dismantling institutional knowledge and talent for dealing with Russian operations against the United States. At the FBI alone he got rid of five people with a combine 100 years plus of experience directly related to countering Russian operations against our country. So, what’s happening now is nothing new. It’s just on a bigger and more public scale. If the West Wing of the WH is the President’s territory it’s not hard to imagine if Trump gets his way he’ll hand over the East Wing to Putin. But the entire building will effectively be, as the title picture indicates the Kremlin Annex West.
Our only hope is that Trump blew it Friday by being so aggressive. Everything was set for a slightly uncomfortable deal signing in which Ukraine wouldn’t get jack. There are reports Pootie isn’t at all happy about the Vance led attack because unlike Trump he knew it would promote solidarity in NATO and the EU at a time when things were starting to turn in Russia’s favor with waning support for at least another year of war, especially with only tepid support from the U.S. It seems VP Vance got into Trump’s head and convinced him it would be a grand, grand idea to bolster things with MAGA and beat up on Zelenskyy. Vance’s over-eagerness might wind up costing him dearly. If I were him I’d have a food taster from now on, and if things keep going the way they are and the GOP in Congress feels too much pressure and starts openly backing Ukraine again Vance had better steer clear of Kristi Noem. We know how SHE deals with overactive puppies!
Tonight I’m bouncing between so many emotions I can’t think straight. So I apologize if this wasn’t as clear as I’d hoped it would be. I just found myself at the keyboard with a desire to get my thoughts out there. The country and free world that I was born into is gone. Whether Europe can produce a new leader of the free world remains to be seen. What is clear is that while Trump only got laughed at when he tried his schtick at the U.N. during his first term, IF he addressed the General Assembly this fall he’s likely to meet with boos. The UN might be looking for a new home by the end of this year.
“America First” won’t be what Trump has sold MAGAs on. It will instead be a mix of America demanding and the rest of the world not caring all that much. And when it comes to governance of the U.S. it will be more like Iran. Yes, they have elected leadership but the religious honchos have the final say on everything. In our case, it will be PUTIN who has to sign off on whatever Trump wants to do.

Friends, we thank you if you have already donated. If you have not, and are able, we use the donations to pay the overhead until our traffic gets back up to normal again. Everything crashed after November 5, which is why you see people like Joy Reid getting fired and Jim Acosta resigning. We are at war in this country. Truth v. Lies. This blog will always bring you the truth as long as we have internet access and Kash Patel doesn’t carry us off. I have no idea how bizarre things could get. Truly I don’t. But we’re in it together. Ursula

I tried to contribute to this invaluable blog but the system told me that I have an account already and to sign in. All I want to do is make a donation. I do not want an “account” or to sign in to it. Help?
I sent Ursula a message. However the blue Donate button in the banner seems pretty simple when you click on it. You enter the amount and fill out the required information to donate via PayPal or with a credit card. As far as I can tell it doesn’t require logging into the site. Any contribution you can make goes to site overhead – making sure we have technical support and server access. Try clicking on the blue Donate button in the banner and let me know how it goes.
You can also contact her directly at [email protected] and she will be happy to help you figure out how to donate.
Great analysis, Denis. Thanks.
