This is one for the ages. Master Grifter Trump decided to make a commemorative coin for the birthday of the nation. No matter what he intended, there is a mistake on it. Hilarity ensued. Since it has Trump’s face on it, it’s ugly, too. And cheaply made, but not cheaply sold.

This coin is gold-plated over base metal. We knew Trump was cheap, but he’s spending someone else’s money, so why was it made so poorly? On the other hand, it should hold up better because gold is soft. (Watching someone goldsmith is fascinating.) There are quite a few steps to this process, but here is the general overview.

Gold plating coats a base metal object with a thin layer of gold using an electrochemical process called electroplating. There is a buffer metal between the base metal and the gold layer to prevent the gold from mixing with the base. There are multiple videos about it. Now you have been educated. Are you thrilled? Good.

Here’s a kicker: You can buy a roll of 25 for $61.00 and a bag of 100 for $154.50. What? They are *dollar* coins. So why does it cost “extra” to get them, not that any of us would? Gold is so soft it can be taken down to a fraction of an inch for just a tiny piece. But they cost more than a dollar. Grift, Grift, Grift. It is part of the US Mint’s celebration of the country’s birthday, but there are actually some in circulation.

And now the part you have been waiting for. (No, really!) The dates have an issue. It says 1776 to 2026. Erm. The country hasn’t died yet, even though Trump is trying to make it so. Surely there was a better way to put dates on there. How about above and below Trump’s head? Then it could have resembled a gravestone. One of the best comments from the article is, courtesy of Rep Ted Lieu: Why is Trump wearing a wig?

Thanks for Raw Story.

Vanity, thy name is Trump. It’s odd how we keep pushing that to the side until he reminds us again. The construction for the ^@$*#(_r_@#&e+{j* ballroom is under way thanks to the idiots at SCOTUS. He’s looking at plans for the ugly monstrosity of a triumphal arch. Hoping that won’t get completed before he gets thrown out of office, so it can be torn down and the proper things restored. He’s ripped down something else at the Kennedy Center. They still want to etch his name on the facade. It’s getting to be a challenge to list all his crap. Maybe we can do it as a group project sometime. That would be fun!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
