Even a broken clock is right twice a day and even Donald Trump comes up with a great idea once in a while. This could actually work — although not the way he thinks it will. Trump believes himself to have “won” the June 27 debate. He didn’t win it, unless there’s a prize for lying every nine seconds. If that’s the criteria, yes, he absolutely won it hands down. But Trump’s defining his win by the abysmal reaction to Joe Biden’s performance that night. Biden was expected to give us SOTU II and instead we got the disappointment that we got. That disappointment spawned many conspiracy theories, including one that the President was considering dropping out of the race. So here is Trump’s next move and for once I agree with him.

Not sure what “massive” ratings he’s talking about, the debate back in 2020? Yes, that did do well. The June 27 debate didn’t do anywhere near as well. It got 23 million fewer voters in fact. And Trump can’t do a “good, old fashioned Debate, the way they used to be,” because they used to be between two credible, competent and prepared party leaders. We don’t have that set up in 2024. We have one party leader and the reality TV actor, running to run the country that he tried to overthrow when he ran it before, running once more because he’s running from the law.
Where Trump is making the wrong call here is that Joe Biden isn’t going to make the same mistake twice. He won’t be meeting with scholars and experts who stuff his head with meaningless factoids. He’ll be fully rested and ready to do a show biz performance — which, in all truth, should have been the case a week ago, but it wasn’t so let’s not waste any more time crying over spilled milk. Let’s just get back in the barn and go back to work getting what we need.
I think it’s a great idea for Trump and Biden to go back on TV — and just “chat.” By chat, I mean, a topic is thrown out, they each get two minutes, and then they can spar with one another and you know that Biden will give as good as he gets. This we have seen.
The TV personality wants to make this into a TV confrontation. I say let’s accommodate him. Give him what he wants. How soon do you think we can set this up? Because Trump is a one-trick pony. What got him where he got in 2016 was that he was new to American audiences — oh, maybe not to the people who watched The Apprentice, but definitely new to people who follow politics. He was the iconoclast, the original. That’s no longer the case. Now, he’s got a stale act that everybody has seen and heard, ad nauseum. So if he wants to spar with Biden, let’s have him do that. The heck with facts, just get up there and do an insult fest. Why not?

Biden should accept, and then immediately turn the tables on Trump; ONLY talk about Project 2025 and how The Heritage Foundation, Federalist Society, Leonard Leo, and dozens of Christian Nationalist Billionaires are planning a total makeover (in their image) of The United States.
Trump is THEIR Trojan Horse, nothing more. As soon as they get him into power, they will take it away.
Even MAGA should be very afraid of what these organizations/people are going to do.
magats are too stupid to be afraid. They are incapable of thinking any further ahead than maybe a few hours into the future. They, just like their shitty-diapered turd emperor, think they’ll be in charge. To say they all are fools is one of the biggest understatements ever seen in the history of humanity.
MAGAts aren’t the only ones incapable of meaningful forward thinking. As a line supervisor in a Bell System company 30-odd years ago, I was sent to a series of meetings on “Quality”, through which we were expected to improve the service we provided. During an early lecture, the comparisons between automobiles made in Japan and domestic output came up, and the leader told us that during interviews with executives of the manufacturers’ representatives the Japanese leadership teams considered a time frame of several years in forming strategies, while in their view American corporate leaders didn’t look any farther forward than 15 MINUTES!
Trump falls into trap.
Well that was easy, he’s not hard to manipulate is he?
“No holds barred”? Then I guess he wouldn’t object to fact- checking. Make a rule that following each response, moderators (and make sure Lawrence O’Donnell or Maddow is on the panel) are given the time they need to slice and dice at everything said.
Also President Biden should choose the moderator, each candidate should be in a soundproof booth, and the convicted felon’s mic should be cut off when it is the President’s turn to speak.
I agree. How does CNN and their do nothing bobbleheads seem to always be the venue?!
But of course it will be said to be rigged against tRUMP if the two aforementioned rational, scholarly individuals have anything to do with it. Billionaires owning media. Nothing to see/hear folks…that we’re FORCE feeding you. So glad I was raised in a world that valued critical thinking.(pre Regan) I feel like I’m surrounded by dogs that…Squirrel!
I say go for it Joe! And just let Joe be Joe!
I’ve a feeling “no holds barred” has a certain definition to Von Shitzinpants and his team. It means fux nuz personalities moderating, no fact-checking allowed, and President Biden’s mic will conveniently go silent at inconvenient (for Joe) moments…swaths of time… during the debate.
Biden should agree to having it on msnbc with Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O Donnell as moderators to demand Trump answer the questions asked and stop his lies when they roll out of his mouth. WHEN he declines…Biden needs to go on tv DAILY to call him a coward, a fraud, and a spineless weasel!!!!! DO IT JOE! No more right wing CNN.
