CNN’s political analyst Charlie Dent, who’s also a former GOP Rep. (Pennsylvania) has some news that ex-president Donald Trump will definitely NOT want to hear. Especially now that reports show that Trump was recorded pushing canvassers from the Wayne County, Michigan Board of Canvassers to reject the 2020 election certification.

“We’ve got to fight for our country,” Trump is heard saying in the recording. “We can’t let these people take our country away from us.”

As Raw Story reports, Dent appeared on MSNBC earlier Tuesday to detail what this new recording means for Trump, who’s currently leading the pack of Republican presidential wannabes for the 2024 election.

“While right now, trump seems to be energized by the fact that he’s indicted, back down here on planet earth, indictments usually spell political death and a conviction is even worse,” Dent said.

We have to remember that the election is still months away and if there’s anything we’ve learned from what happened in 2020 it’s that anything can and could happen. Memories are often short, but Trump did himself in here because people grew tired of his unfulfilled promises, his threats, his racism, and outright lies. No one could count on him for anything worthwhile. And that seems to be the conclusion Dent has arrived at because as part of a panel on MSNBC he told host Richard Lui “I mean, we can see the polls today that show maybe Trump has a slight lead over Biden but the election is not today and we’re quite a few months away from the actual general election.”

So we’d better buckle our seatbelts. This is going to be a bumpy ride.

While Dent, a Republican, deserves a little credit for being capable of thinking toward the future, a group of Democratic strategists told The New York Times more or less the same thing Tuesday. If Trump is convicted of a crime by a jury of his peers, a sizable number of voters will be unlikely to support him, the analysts wrote.

Lui couldn’t help but note “polling that suggests the impact of a conviction would be even more pronounced in the swing states.” He also mentioned one poll that found Biden winning six states by ten points if Trump is convicted and sentenced.

To former federal prosecutor Carol Lam, the recently unearthed secret recording could result in two new charges for Trump and his cohorts. I imagine Ronna McDaniel, chair of the Republican National Committee may find herself dragged down this rabbit hole because she’s also heard on this tape, cautioning the canvassers not to sign Wayne County’s official statement of the votes that were tallied that day and noting “If you can go home tonight, do not sign it….We will get you attorneys.”

One of the charges may come from Michigan, while the other could be added to the Department of Justice’s indictment of Trump stemming from his 2020 actions, Lam said. She also argued timing would play a key part in prosecutors’ decisions to pursue charges against a presidential candidate during an election year.

“Again, we are all working against a clock here,” she said. “we’re all watching the clock with respect to when all of these trials may get to actually be tried in front of a jury and that’s the big question here.”

Hopefully, Trump is finally beginning to understand that he isn’t impervious to justice for all his wrongdoing. He’s done so much damage in the U.S. that he needs to atone for. But he’ll probably continue to play the victim because that’s how he rolls.

Here’s the clip of Dent and others airing their thoughts.

  1. Spectacular face plant coming up, in the not too distant future. The malodorous mango will get ugly; like a grotesque hideous gargoyle, sitting on top of its political funeral pyre. Thud!

    • I no longer even bother watching CNN – totally in the both siderism bag now. Fishing for ratings. Shame – used to be somewhat decent.

  2. CNN Smerconich had a segment with Eli Honig on Saturday. They were saying Jack Smith was being political for pushing his cases before election 2024. As compared to after NOT being political? I couldn’t believe the verbal vomit I was hearing. And it literally PISSED ME OFF. I knew CNN was humping on Trump. But this was a low I didn’t expect. Look for it on their app, or YouTube.

  3. And pundits wonder why Trump is using g his standard delay delay delay and then delay some more by filing motion after motion. He is delaying even the possibility of a conviction because if he delays long enough he might be re-elected.
