As if things weren’t already bad enough for the RNC and the GOP in general, what with Traitor Tot sucking up every spare sou of grassroots fundraising, now they have another problem to worry about. Their own traditional fundraising.

Rachel Maddow had a great segment on tonight that showed just how much Trump’s influence is wrecking what should be a walkover year for the GOP in the midterms. She gave 3 specific examples;

  • In Kansas, Democratic incumbent Governor Laura Kelly is squaring off against Trombie Derek Schmidt. In a previous life, Schmidt worked for a former GOP Governor, as well as a former GOP Senator. But in advertising, Kelly is able to boast that both of Schmidt’s former employers, along with a phalanx of traditional GOP powerhouses have come out and endorsed her instead
  • In Michigan, Democratic incumbent Governor Gretchen Whitmer is up against Trump insaniac Tudor Dixon. And just as in Kansas, Whitmer has traditional GOP power endorsement list almost as long as Kelly’s roster in Kansas
  • In Pennsylvania, Democratic Attorney General Josh Shapiro is going up against GOP J6 insurrectionist, and all around douchebag Doug Mastriano. And for the hat trick, not only is Shapiro able to brag about the laundry list of traditional PA power GOP names that have endorsed him, he’s bragging about their financial support for his campaign

Rachel spotlighted these races because they are gubernatorial races in critical swing states. But in almost every critical swing state, the GOP has unelectable Trombie candidates running for statewide seats. What do you think the chances are that these power players are Just saying Nay to GOP gubernatorial candidates, but Yea to Secretary of State and Attorney General Trombie candidates?

The traditional ethos of politics is that in the last 6 weeks of an election cycle, Messaging is King, and getting your messaging out to your voters requires cold hard cash. And in any statewide race, the premier source of campaign cash is in state GOP power donors. And these donors aren’t just turning off the funski valve for Trombie candidates, they’re actively donating to their Democratic opponents instead.

In Ohio, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has had to pump $20 million to his lazy Hillbilly candidate, JD Vance, because Vance is too lazy to fundraise, or spend his own cash on his campaign, putting him behind Democrat Tim Ryan. And reporting from PA shows that Msstriano is going largely radio silent in the last, most critical weeks of the campaign due to a lack of funds. And Traitor Tot is not likely to pitch any of his kitty in to help out, and major GOP donors are contributing to his Democratic opponent instead.

Here’s the way it breaks down as I see it. This isn’t a one off for the GOP or the RNC. The most powerful donors in statewide elections are in state GOP donors. And in 2022, they’re voting with their feet and their wallets. But Trump is widely expected to be the GOP presidential nominee in 2024, which will lead to yet another statewide slate of brain dead Trombie candidates. Trump won’t part with campaign cash to support his own candidates, and traditional statewide GOP donors won’t support them either. This is what a death spiral looks like in politics.

  1. This also confirms a theory of mine: the traditional Republicans remain too weak to expel the Trump cult from their party. Mostly, that’s a lack of leadership at present (you’ll notice the current resistance comes from former underlings and current moneymen). But it’s long been my supposition that the collapse of this incarnation of American conservatism would begin when Big Money started pulling the plug. THAT’S what we’re seeing here.

  2. Now, does “powerhouses” mean pols OR donors? From what I”m reading here it sounds like pols are getting behind these dem candidates. That doesn’t necessarily mean big money is getting behind them.
