Well, it turns out that Friday’s Alaska Summit was even worse than I had thought at the time. For Traitor Tot. And today’s Summit Update meeting at the White House with NATO leaders along with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was supposed to be Cleanup on Aisle 47. It didn’t work that way. For the simple reason that Traitor Tot can’t sign a peace agreement with Putin without Zelenskyy.
Look, there is nothing serious about Vladimir Putin’s sham political farce about negotiating for peace with Ukraine. And you can tell simply by his demands. Here are just some of Vlad the Imp’s non negotiable demands;
- Putin wants to keep all of the Ukrainian land he has occupied since the invasion began
- Putin wants to annex Ukrainian land that he hasn’t even held since the war started
- He wants Ukraine to give back the 900+ miles of Russian land they’ve taken over since the war started
- He wants enough existing Ukrainian defense forces disbanded as part of the peace treaty to leave a Trump military incapable of resisting a future invasion
- And now the capstone, and the one that exposes Putin’s biggest problem. In any peace treaty, Ukraine must be deemed ineligible tor membership in NATO
That’s the McGuffin right there. Because Putin already knows that this is disastrous. When he attacked, Ukraine was not a member of NATO, but reformist President Zelenskyy was cleaning up his corruption cesspool, and taking the steps necessary to pass muster for membership in NATO. It was only a matter of time, so Putin struck while the iron was hot. But it was always a one-shot-deal.
Putin’s dream resolution is to trade a permanent denial of Ukraine into NATO for neutrality guarantees for Ukraine from Russia. Last I checked, Ukarine was a neutral country when Putin put the hammer down this time. But a cheap treaty like this allows him time to rebuild and restock his military for another tilt at the windmill, knowing that NATO once again would be under no obligation to intercede with military force.
To see why this is so critical for Putin, you only have to look at history. Cast your mind back about 35 years. In 1991 Saddam Hussein sent his army into Kuwait in a cheap and brazen power grab. Kuwait was not, and still isn’t a NATO member.
Then President George H.W. Bush put together a global coalition of countries to supply troops and support to respond to Kuwait’s aggression. Their mandate was simple, push Iraq’s army back within its own borders. There was no mandate for regime change, nor was any attempted. It was a huge success.
Now, imagine that Ukraine had actually been a member of NATO when Russia crossed their borders, or had security guarantees as a pending member. It took NATO I believe less than 72 hours to declare Article 5 of the NATO charter and come to the support of the United States after 9/11. And they followed through for the long haul.
Now, as stupidly as Russia has prosecuted their war against Ukraine over the last two and a half years. think about what would have happened if NATO had voted to invoke Article 5, or enact their security guarantees on Ukraine’s behalf in the first 72 hours of the invasion.
The NATO response in Ukraine would have been as simple as the US led response in Kuwait in 1991. No invasion, no regime change, the sole mission would have been to push the Russian forces back inside their own borders and keep them there. Do you honestly believe that if NATO had voted to come to Ukraine’s aid, or a President with the balls had set up a global coalition to respond to the Russian agression, that we’d be chugging up on three years in this war? And if Putin had thought it a serious risk, he never would have invaded.
And NATO knows it, and they feel it. From reporting I’ve seen, if a condition of a peace treaty is security guarantees from Russia, more and more NATO countries are preparing to sign their own individual security guarantees with Ukraine, each containing basically a verbatim clause of Section 5 of the NATO Charter. Ukraine may not be a NAYO member, but if Putin pounces again, their individual security guarantee treaties and the NATO countries respond individually.
This is why Trump is basically inconsequential in this crisis, and he has nobody to blame but himself. In his first term, he forced the European NATO members to look at the possibility of a NATO future without the United States being its dominant member. And they learned their lesson, and coordinated for the future. Biden was a pleasant, nostalgic respite for them, but with the threat of TrumpaPalooza II, they didn’t wait, they planned. And now, to our eternal shame, they’re ready.
I thank you for the privilege of your time.

Fittingly, by playing the NATO cards wongly, Putin has been hoist by his own petard.
duh, wrongly.
🛑🤔 Putin’s “peace terms” are nothing but land grabs in disguise. Without NATO guarantees, any deal just sets the stage for his next invasion. ⚔️🌍
Accept the unpleasant reality that Trumpland USA is allied with Putin’s Russia, not with the free West, so boot America out of NATO and usher Ukraine in. NATO will survive without the US and so will Ukraine.
