They should be! Trump and a few others got the incognito flight to the UK. Everyone else was on Air Force One. They didn’t know anything. And Trump abandoned them, including a couple of advisors, such as Stephen Miller. Yes, we can be mean about Miller and think it wouldn’t be a horrible loss. Neither would Scott Bessent. Senior staff was furious with President Donald Trump as more information surfaced about the jet plane swap in Turkey last month. Brian Karem, Raw America White House reporter, detailed how these Trump administration officials and a former White House press secretary reacted to news that Trump had abandoned his own team and press corps for another plane amid a threat from Iran. House insider said on Thursday. Trump had commented, joking with reporters that he would “go first” if Air Force One was attacked.
Uh, huh. Sure, Donnie, whatever you say. He absolutely abandoned them. He probably didn’t think about the rest of the people at all. Me, me, me. He had to fly to the UK in a different plane that we all know did not have nearly the protections that AF1 does. There was a rumor that Rubio knew and got on the plane anyhow. But everyone else didn’t know. What about the people actually flying the plane? Did they know? If not, then that’s really, really heartless of Trump. Sure, they know what comes with the job, but oof.
“Apparently not (Trump would go first),” a high-ranking Trump staff member told Karem. “He got off the plane and left us there.” Members of the press and even Trump’s top Cabinet members had no knowledge of the threat, as Trump left them as “potential sitting ducks in the event of a missile attack,” Karem reported. The president’s move has prompted a rupture among some of his top staff. “How would you feel if you were cannon fodder?” a senior Trump staff member said.
OUCH. Scorched! They have every right to be angry! It would be one thing if they had been told about the possibility of an attack and decided to get on the plane. But nothing? That’s uncalled for. And it’s right in line because Trump only thinks about himself. It’s surprising anyone else got to go with him. Possibly the Secret Service? We don’t have any information about that part. But it would be interesting to know, yes, indeed.
“What does it say that our president cares so little for those around him?” the senior staffer asked. Former Clinton press secretary Joe Lockhart told Karem he felt compelled to speak out about Trump’s comments and actions after the reports came to light. “There is simply no reason why we should accept that behavior, and the reporters and the staff who were left behind have every reason to be upset,” Lockhart said. “The president’s life is paramount. But that’s not an excuse for forgetting everyone else.”
No, it isn’t. It’s not an excuse, which means a version of ETTD was in full force. People who travel with the president a great deal should know by now that he doesn’t care about anyone but himself. In that context, what he did makes perfect sense. But in the context of what’s normal for me and you, it’s thoughtless and disgusting. Trump is not well and definitely was never anything close to normal. Now we know he will do things we consider extreme to protect his fat orange arse. Is it time for midterms yet?
