I don’t know who’s running the House Republican caucus right now. It’s supposed to be Kevin McCarthy. If it is, then he is abysmally out of touch with public sentiment, not to mention lacking in common decency. But it doesn’t appear to be McCarthy, it appears to be Donald Trump. As you are aware, 21 House Republicans voted last week against awarding the Capitol police and all police officers who defended these same GOPers by responding on January 6 with the Congressional Gold Medal. That was a big mistake.

There is another clip that you must take a moment and watch if you haven’t seen it already. Rep. Andrew Clyde disgraced himself and his office when he insulted Metropolitan D.C. cop Michael Fanone, a 20 year veteran in law enforcement, by refusing to shake the man’s hand when Fanone visited him at his House office. Fanone’s comments about that incident, together with Clyde’s pathetic gaslighting about what a normal tourist visit January 6 was, is simply unbelievable. To the best of my knowledge it marks not only a new low for any sitting congressman, but the nadir of public relations between the police and congress. This has to be viewed to be believed.

Evidently the issue here is the term “insurrection.” These 21 representatives seem to think that calling what happened in the Capitol on January 6 by its true name somehow puts them at a disadvantage. But these are the same people who voted to overturn the election, so logically, you can’t say it comes as a surprise.
Gerry Connolly nails it.
"They voted to overturn an election, but in their vote today they kind of sealed the deal of basically affiliating with the mob. They now are part of the insurrectionist mob."

I cannot believe that this is good policy for anybody. It’s certainly not good policy for the GOP, which has prided itself on its stance, Blue Lives Matter and Back the Blue. I think it’s fair to say that this is one vote that is going to come back and bite these representatives in the ass.
The sad thing is, most of these cops were Trump supporters. We are living in the most f—-d up times in American.
If they continue to support drumpf and the G.Q.P., then I cease to feel anything but contempt for them. They would be no different than the yahoos who support the ‘pubes who consistently vote/work against their interests.
Bargain with the Devil…
I agree with Ursulafaw, this whole picture has become so variegated and bizarre, the GOP still functions as the party of NO, but the vile river of crap that runs throughout the Republican party, with smaller units fomenting their own versions of reality, and the seeming lack of intelligence generally, makes for a very slippery slope to complete collapse …
I’m sure they expect to be taken seriously at some level, but REALLY ?
The fight against Ms. Hucky Boo Boo Sanders is a sign of the negative quality leap the Republicans are offering down south and the Dem side is offering the man of character AND intelligence they need to overcome the slime of the current Republican mob …
The GQP congress critters seem to focus more on optics than principles. Pathetic.
Some of their crap needs to come back and bite them majorly in the a##, but I’ve about despaired of ever seeing it happen.
It says a lot (and nothing good) about the Democratic Party that they are even in a battle with these guys (and gals), with a poor prospect of holding on to either house of Congress.
NYTIMES KNOWS They published the list of 147 CONGRESSMEN who broke their #Congressional Wmplotment Oath and cannot now legally be re-elected per Amendment 13. Here is original post
