This is literally making me cry. More bodies have to have been found because the count of losses from Camp Mystic is now at 27. Twenty-seven! I haven’t quite lost all hope yet, but it’s losing rapidly against what has been found out. Those girls, gone. Other people, gone. It’s just worse and worse with very little good news to tell. The total count is currently at 89. From CNN:
Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said as of 8:30 a.m. local time this morning 75 bodies have been recovered after flood waters hit the area on the Fourth of July. The death total includes 48 adults and 27 children. “Of this, 48 adults and 27 children, 15 adults and nine children are pending identification,” he said in a news conference Monday. “At present there are 10 campers from Camp Mystic unaccounted for and one counselor.” Today’s update brings the total death toll from the floods across Texas to 89.
See what I mean? It’s worse and worse. I can’t see that “fault” could be laid on anything. Okay, maybe the early warning system for flooding that had been discussed but never put in place could have been a factor, yes. But the water rose so fast that there was still barely any time to evacuate. The only “fault” is the rain and the river. People are human, after all. This gets worse. And this is some BULLCOOKIES. Family members of victims are being scammed and harassed online. As relatives desperately seek information about their loved ones affected by the floods in Texas, some are being harassed online and subjected to calls from scammers, Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice said in a news conference Monday. “This is a worldwide discussion, and we’re dealing with scammers. Victims’ families are being reached out to, saying that ‘they have their kids pay me money.’ It’s heartbreaking. It’s absolutely heartbreaking,” Rice said.
Some people are just despicable. And disgusting. And hateful. And heinous. Trying to make money off people whose children are still missing is just abominable. What is wrong with these people??!!!! Good gods, I can’t even imagine having the mind to do this! *ahem* Moving on, here is something a little bit more personal:
A volunteer fire chief remains missing Monday, after his vehicle was swept off the road as he responded to the deadly flooding in Texas over the weekend. Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Michael Phillips went missing while responding to an early morning water rescue on Saturday, around 4:30 a.m., Burnet County officials said Sunday. “We had our deputies traveling the county, checking low-water spots as the rain was coming in, and we had three of our own deputies that were stranded on roadways – safe but stranded – and we watched unfortunately as his vehicle did go off the roadway,” Trevino said.
A rescuer was swept off the road while trying to rescue people, and they saw it. They had to watch him. They SAW IT. Again, I can’t even imagine what that felt like. I can’t imagine how they kept going after that. I guess the needs of the greater outweighed the news of the few.
Kristi Photoshoot Noem, Ted Cancun Cruz, and El Presidente Imbécil had very little to say. Yes, they talked, but it was all crap. Words don’t mean much when you’ve lost someone. You have too much to think about to pay attention to platitudes. That’s all they were. Agent Orange has cut people from the weather service. tRump is killing FEMA. Disasters after this one aren’t going to get any help if this goes through. I can hope Trumpolini has second thoughts about FEMA, but I’m not hopeful about that.
